High Oil Pressure

Ok I'm back again with more questions. First I have a Thomas MVP RE w/5.9 Cummins. 132,534 miles and 5633.1 hours showing. My oil pressure at idle is about 85psi. Driving it is about 98 psi. Is That high?? If so what is the problem.

Also, where will I find the air compressor for the brakes? It don't seem to be belt driven because I see the alternator, a/c, idlers, and the belt going to the fan.

wow, thats high oil pressure! i'm no help with that.

but your air compressor is gear driven. it bolts up to back side of the front of the motor. its under the injection pump, on the driver's side.

W/o knowing the accuracy of the gauge, maybe the OP is not high.

99% chance you have a bad oil pressure sensor. Had the exact same symptom on 3 diesel engines, all had the oil pressure sensors replaced. readings went to normal.

Thanks for the replies. my guess there is on test for an oil sending unit. Perhaps the part won't cost a lot. I'll have to take my time and locate it. Also I read on this forum, some members are getting oil tests. I have already sent off for my kit. As I plan my conversion, I must learn about maintenance on this rig. I can't afford going to the shop all of the time. If I have a major break down... I think I'll buy another bus!

Sending unit for 9L IH engine was ~$80 bucks, and I replaced it myself in under an hour.

One for the 5.9 Cummins should be more common, and less expensive. Parts place may request the VIN for your bus to help assure a correct match.

I don't really know why I didn't think of the oil sending unit. I'm ok with mechanical problems but I guess it this whole diesel thing for me is new. I have always steered clear of anything that had a diesel in it. So far the only thing I have purchased for the bus is 2 qt. of oil and a new spare tire. I plan to keep good records on maintenance. That should help with the learning process.

You know that's a good point; barring the internal work done most busses here are less than aa major repair. hmmm...
And mine have very little "work" done to the inside, mostly just setup and arrangement.

good luck with the oil p

even if you buy another bus just to pull the engine and swap it.. oftentimes a shop will do a swap much cheaper than a rebuild...
