How much is too much powah

In my bus there is a spicer 5 speed manual transmission that is rated for 180hp and 430 flbtq.
Driving it is a t444e making 175hp and 460(peak) flbtq.

I want to retune this turd.
210hp would be nice, 195 would be too.

How far past the ratings of the trans do you think I can go without incurring serious damages.
I don't normally thrash my equipment, I'm not trying to do burnouts..... I just want to be able to accelerate!

You won't have a issue.

Go for it.

My engine's tuned to 190hp (t444E) and has no problem accelerating. I concur with Nat

A Spicer manual can probably handle twice the HP & torque. My main concern would be the clutch. Might be able to beef it up a bit via springs and such but I will leave that for more knowledgeable minds.

It's not like it doesn't, it just thinks it's a drugged sloth.

As long as your not slipping your clutch, you will be fine.

Where are you guys going for tunes? Need one for my T444E also. I have heard anything for a 7.3 Powerstroke will work but want to get a first hand view on that.

I think I'd trust a farmer to come up with a good solid fix before I would an engineer.

How much is the IH dealer asking to do re-tuning?

If I remember right it worked out to around a couple hundred bucks, for the "tune" with no actual upgrades done.

I have no idea if that's good or bad..... I have done no other research on price or performance. I just want the damn thing to make a couple extra hp.
All said and done I figure it will weigh 30k with trailer and I just don't think 175 hp is enough considering the legal owner wants to take it to South America.

Sweet! A couple hundred dollars is about what the aftermarket tuning kits cost, but having it done properly by International is way better.

I should have gone over to the local IH dealer when my friend worked there.. He might have been able to give me a discount! Ah well...
