King pin replacement

What should this cost. I had my front end steam cleaned then took it to Betts. They showed me my worn king pins. What should this cost to replace? They have a special going for stainless, $850 plus tax. How does this sound?

Re: King pin replacement

No comment on price
I didn't know they used SS for them,I can see the anti-corrosion element, just curious since the lack of carbon is the reason for lack of rust....wonder what parts are SS?
A lot of SS is "soft" and since the bushings need to be reamed to size they can't be harden.
I now must "study" king pin replacement on these only kingpins I have messed with were D60 stuff which was steel and bearings...not solid 1pc pins.
If they are lubricated and clean,is there an advantage worthy of the cost?
Just curious and rambling....this is something I want to do next spring
I will comment that $850 to R&R a truck frontend seems cheap...is this"per side"?

The price is total and includes an alignment.

Re: King pin replacement

they should also do the wheel bearings, check brake cams, etc. depending on your type. for example, mine has oil wheel bearings.
i would think this is probably in the ballpark for price, maybe a bit high, depending upon normal shop rates.
it will take someone a few hrs to do all that...

Re: King pin replacement

Would it be possible to get a price check at another shop? That will tell you everything you want to know......... I think?

Front axle weighs over 10k. I don't have the place, tools or the time to do it. I have never seen it done. I know I could figure it out but I don't have the luxury of leaving it apart until I finish.

I did some checking on the price, I was told by several that the price was fair. Some shops are charging as much as $120 per hour for labor and that's not the dealer. I'm going with the $850 quote when I get some extra cash unless I have it done somewhere else if I go a trip and it's lots cheaper.

P.S. that's for the feedback.
