Lucas-Girling Brakes I need brake drums

Yeah , I know but it's what I got. Pulled the right drum to address brake fluid leakage and realized the drum is worn beyond the wear limit. So far, no drums available new or used. Dayton casting #122806, (13-122806-002). Was well on the way to being able to get inspection and registration as MH in June. Now not so much. I've exhausted local resources in Dallas. Suggestions? Help?

There are a lot of truck dealers in the D/FW metroplex. Have you tried the dealer for your bus?

I have several folks looking but so far it seems to be a fruitless endeavor. Rock Auto showed to have a six lug drum available and I have those coming but further research leaves me to believe they won't be correct. I did find a place in IL that will actually re-line the drums and shoes and re-arch the shoes to fit properly. It's really not much more costly than the price of new ones that aren't available. Shipping both ways from TX puts them in the $700 range for each side. Still have to replace the wheel cylinders. Got too much invested to turn back now.

Local truck place found 2 for $900 ea. jgrelining.com can reline drums as well as shoes, would have been about $450 per side plus shipping $300 estimate roundtrip. When I talked to him he suggested turning and building thicker shoes. That's the way I went using local truck brake shop. About $100 per side. Big hit was wheel cylinders and park brake canister, $500 and $225. I re-built the left side myself using Euclid kit E5489 and saved $400+. Park brakes worked so didn't replace left can. Rebuilt MS from NAPA $150 and rebuilt boost pump from Oreilly's #731-0125 $52. Both in stock at my stores. All in I got probably got out for about $1200, but could've been $600. Hope to test soon as I get diff re-gear completed.

Have you thought about disc brakes at all? I’m not %100 if they are interchangeable. Hoping to find some info about that.

You may be about to make a horrible mistake. Why bother when you can find something much easier to service and find parts for?

I asked the guy at the brake shop about disc. He said that later model Fords and Hinos used disc and could probably interchange. It would require a complete rear axle swap and you'd end up with different wheels than front as the disc rear end would likely be 10 lug. You could probably put 10 lug hubs on the front and get all new wheels. As previously mentioned, lots of $$ even if you are resourceful and do your own wrenching. #axmehowiknow
Originally I got my 53 pass for $800. Had I started with the brakes, I might have scrapped it. I could have sold the 6B for double what I paid for the bus. At this point I'm too deep in to stop and expect to drop another $4k in it. Even with what it's got in it, I think $5k is a bit high for this one.

For 900 bucks per drum, you can better believe I'd be swapping axles. There is no way I'd be repairing what you have.

You should be able to find a complete school bus with air brakes, take what you need off of it, swap on your junk, and then resell it for less then what you'll have in fixing those girling brakes. That system is a b@stard child of braking systems that were only half decent when in perfect condition.
