Priming DT466E
I've been searching my issue with no real answer yet, but while reading on changing fuel filters, I have always done fuel filter and oil filter changes by filling the new ones with fresh fluid. I watched a YT video where I had to laugh at the installer who recommended you fill the new filters "about half way". Why would you leave that much air to bleed through the system, you always fill them full. But now I see some DT466E mechanics that say put the fuel filter on dry and only fill it via the primer pump. I see no reason to harm anything by filing the filter first. What say you with DT466E experience.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it. Fill it up, save yourself some time. Make sure your container you're pouring the diesel out of is clean too.

Filling a fuel filter the traditional way may allow contaminents to enter the engine. All depends on your filling jug imho.

They also recommend disconnecting the cam sensor on the valve cover while going through the prime/crank process 2 or 3 times. Last time I poured 5 gallons in from my race jug I poured about 1/2 gallon into a clean milk jug to use for filling the filters.

I always fill mine right full. Always fill through the small outside holes rather than the center. That way any errant contaminants from your container will be trapped by the filter media rather than going on through your system. ie That is the normal direction of flow, outside to inside.

I only pre-fill fuel filters, and only if they don't have a manual prime pump or electric lift pump.
Pre-filling can introduce contaminates into the fuel system which is why numerous oem's recommend against it.
If you have to prefill, use some sort of plug or cap in the threaded portion so that you only fill through the exterior holes.
I don't ever pre-fill an oil filter, I find it's not necessary.
