I just read through Chris's entire 545 > A1000 swap (40 pages) and yes he is one smart dude!

Great info and detail level Chris, thanks for the education.

It sounds like the 545 to 643 swap was equally fun.

My bus is a shorty with the T444E, a 5-speed manual, and 5.38 gears. It tops out at 55 at ... 2700 RPM I believe. Being a manual, I'm reasonably sure 5th is direct drive and there is no OD. I'd like to swap it to a 4.10 gear which by the math should give me around 70 top speed. The 5.38 gear set will be available for anyone wishing to make an offer (it's an N175 axle if memory serves me correctly.)

Getting the RPM you want is So very easy. pick the gear, speed, and tire height and you have it.

you sound close on that 4.66 gear to me.

What RPM does that trans shift at WOT?
What is your governed speed now?

But a school bus is not a F250 pickup truck. The weight and Aerodynamics are NOT even close. Sometimes the area you will be in makes a difference if you will like your gears.
Are you going to be seeing:
Towing 5-9K lbs?
Mountain grades?

Both??

I went a little too far with my F700. however i have a 6sp manual trans so i only use 6th above 55MPH on highways.
Do you know of a good resource why I can learn about gear ratios, etc.
