just got off the phone with international. they suggested either 85 w140 or 50 weight for the gear oil in the rear axle. any opinions?

I would think the 50w would be better in colder climate. The 85/140 is a blend that has 140 viscosity properties at operating temp and 85 viscosity properties when cold.
If I remember how blended oils work.
Straight 50w would be thinner at cold and even thinner when at operational temps.
