Rusty Rear Engine

[IMG][/IMG]I am strongly considering making an offer on a 2002 Blue Bird RE with an ISC and a 3060. I just got these pics from the dealer and I am a little concerned about the rust on the engine. I thought I would ask the experts for some advice. What do yall think?

That is pretty rusty. Seeing that much rust on the engine would make me concerned about the frame, suspension and sheet metal. Also that looks like an isb.

Local New England bus? When considering buying a bus that you intend to put a bunch of money in so you can live in it it is best to start with the best platform.Sometimes this means a budget of a few extra $100 to travel to get one. We normally avoid New England buses, not so much from the snow, but from the salt the use that deteriorates vehicles rapidly. They don't use salt in the PNW or Colo. , so good rust free buses are available. Too often I see people settle for less just because it was close. Sometimes fixing the issues on a bus from these territories will cost more than the travel expense to get a rust free bus.

Damn, I didnt even notice that it was an ISB!! I guess that makes it a 6.7 instead of a 5.9 based on the year right? I expect some rust as part of the deal when it comes to a 17yo bus but I was a little concerned about this one. It seems to be very good otherwise. Here is a look at the frame

The biggest problem you will find is after lifting the subfloor. Years of kids tracking in salty snow that melts and gets under the floor boards and just continues to rust away. Unfortunately you don't know how much is there usually until you own it and it's too late. That's why it's best to just avoid certain areas.

Its a 5.9, 24 valve Cummins isb.

Nah, I know better than to look up here, all our buses are rusty trash. I found this one in IN, probably the only place with more rust than New England

Yeah, it seems Cummins did carry the ISB name onto the 6.7, but not until at least 2007
