Re: Stuck in first, literally and figuratively

Things are moving slowly, but they are moving so I'm happy. The bus has officially changed hands - the mechanic I found in Nashville went and picked it up on Tuesday, drove it 10mph to his shop about 6 miles away. Not too bad... He said realistically it'll take him a few days to get to it, but he did price out both the AT545 and the MT643 - $1600 and $2300 respectively (just for the transmission itself). I'm looking forward to hearing back soon an estimate on what it would cost to go with the 643... $800 more for the transmission is probably worth it; it's all the extras that might stack up. Sounds like he has a guy in place to cut down the driveshaft; finding a decent price on the bell housing might be the tricky part. Nevertheless, at the moment I'm fixated on the idea of getting a 643 in there. Heck, I've gone this far... It'll just depend on what the cost ends up being.

I'll bounce the numbers off you guys when they come in....

Holler!

Well that's good news. Glad you got it out of the other shop. I like your tenacity!

Re: Stuck in first, literally and figuratively

As other said Im glad its moving.

I would make it how you want it. To me this is what it is all about. I just hope it ends up the way you want it.

I am shocked a 545 is that much. I have seen them on craigslist in my area for less than 800 for a used one. Yes its a gamble but I think having it at home and around people who you can take it back to on a regular basis to work on... WARRANY.... etc would be a good thing. That is why I suggested put another in and get It home.

The drive shaft cut down is a non issue. They will chop it reweld it and balance it. I do it all the time in my demotion derby cars.... well the other than the balance part not need for that.

I think your efforts to put a better tranny in there is a good choice I just don't want to see people at the mercy of others being so far away
