In a similar vein, what about sand ladders? It'd be a lot of hassle if it had to be done with any frequency. On the other hand, the point is well-made that at some point the surface is so soft that ordinary wheels, driven or not, just can't get a vehicle across. (I haven't invested much thought into what length, width, and thickness would be required to make a sand ladder functional under the weight of a bus!)

I imagine 'sand ladders' for a 36+klb gvwr bus would be a PAIN indeed, although maybe I should consider them for the worse of conditions.

A friend suggested tire chains on the duallies with square tubing laid across the tires, chains thru the tubing to make cross-bars....
