Tranny questions

Im looking at a bus that has a 366 cc engine and 5 speed manual transmission.
Im totally new to all this. Anybody have thoughts on the quality of the engine?
Also the transmossion wont go into 4th or 5th gear. Idk if its worth it to get. My plan is not to drive this thing a ton. Im planning to park it on land but want the option to move it when needed. Its also been insulated and has doar installed plus a wood stove. So basically the daunting parts for me are done, the rest of it i can muddle through building and installing.
Thnx

Personally I would shy away from any bus that needs mechanical work up front. If you take the cost of repair added to the purchase price most times you could have bought a better bus for the same or less.
Price would be a determining factor here on whether it's something you should consider.

Welcome Scardey,

To be perfectly honest, if it is a full size bus, it is probably worth close to $1000 if it runs well enough to get to the recyclers under its own power.

Older gas buses are underpowered, shorter lived and generally get poor fuel mileage compared to recent diesels.

A gasser bus with a broken transmission is not very attractive when we see decent diesel buses with working transmissions sell for $1500-$4500 all day long.

Here is a DT466 powered, 5 speed bus that is currently at $1500 at auction. https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...22&acctid=2192

Auctions sites:

Government Surplus Auctions - govdeals.com

Take a look at the classifieds on skoolie.net as well.

Good luck on your quest.

Got any pics of it? Unless the conversion is the way you want it that's a high asking price. Sounds like a bus I would buy for $1k so I could put everything into my bus.

Those things could be assets or liabilities depending on how they were done. How much insulation, how much solar? I just bought a wood burning stove for $100.
