transmission woes

We were coming thru Boone last week and lost 2nd gear, no problem i figure because i have another tranny at the house . As close as i can figure the old tranny was a NP435 and the replacement is a T19 out of another ford bus ,but they have different sized yokes .anyideas on the easiest/cheapest way around this?

More information needed

Please tell more information. I am not familiar with all trans models and applications. You have a replacement trans, but what is problem?
I would suggest talking to some experts in the trans business as a local truck salvage place or a truck trans rebuild shop. Get the yellow pages and begin to talk about your trans. If you are gonna drive with current trans, check and add some 90W lube oil. Frank

I had a similar problem with an NP 205 transfer case, one from a turbo 400, and another from a 700R4. The splines were different and required different parts to be combined to match up with the 400 tranny. I'm not familiar with the differences between the 435 and the 19. I sought the advice of a trusted professional before doing the cut-and-paste option on the two different transfer cases. If there is a trusted transmission specialist (or one that can be recommended to you by a trusted mechanic) to consult, that would be the best way to go. I'm a diesel specialist, trannies are not my strong suit.

You have an NP435 in a B700? This surprises me. The NP435 is a hell of a transmission, but it's kind of smallish in that application. Ditto for the T19. If both versions are Ford-specific transmission I believe they should both be 31 spline outputs so you can just swap the yokes between the two (again...I believe this to be true, but I know GM stuff better). The inputs are the same so there won't be any clutch issues. I do believe the T-19 is about an inch longer than the 435 though so you might have some issues with driveshaft length.

Hey M1031...do you still have that 32 spline input and the TH400 to NP205 adapter and is it the round pattern or racetrack? Those are some good pieces. Bolting an NP205 to a 700R4 is not a cheap process and you could easily recover your costs if you still had those other pieces.

Experience, I did that conversion about two years ago. I did this with a good friend who is also a certified mechanic. We made a deal where we both came out on top parts wise, and got three vehicles running with all the parts that were traded. I only have the turbo 400 trannies. BTW, the pattern was the round one. Military trucks never used the racetracks....

Ah, this was actually on your CUCV. Those things are worth their weight in gold just in parts even if they are undriveable and rusted to hell. You have the cool one too.

I also have three M1009s. One is my daily driver, one is my wife's daily driver, and one is my son's learning truck (and a spare for us incase one of our daily drivers is down). The little body has had his truck ever since he was 4 years old. The blocks for the pedals are cute for him, but a pain in the a$$ for me. All of our CUCVs are rust free and serviceable. I bought mine for $300 in Lufkin and drove it home, $450 for my wife's and drove it home from Elko, NV, and my son's we got for $1200 from the San Antonio DRMO. The M1031 was bought from a close friend when his use for it evaporated and he gave me first refusal for $4K (a steal, but then again he got it for a steal too). Now the bus we have is our first vehicle with factory air in 5 years. A/C can feel sooooooo good in the Houston humidity!!!!!!

My truck (and my son's) looks like this one but also has the military radio package, my wife's is white with a green stripe down the side:

I'm having one of the local shops weld a new end on the drive shaft costing me $110. They should be done with it after breakfast so i can get this pig put back together. There was about a "3/4" inch difference in length between the two transmissions. And after the new yoke get's installed that'll be about how much shorter my drive shft will be . I probablly should have just went ahead and put a 5 speed in but the junk yard wanted $400 for one. And the t19 came out of a friends old bus so i know what kind of condition its in plus it was free.
