Two starting batteries?

My bus came with two starting batteries and I was told that they were used to run the wheelchair lift. Since the bus no longer has the lift, do I still need TWO starting batteries?

95 International diesel DT466

Re: Two starting batteries?

Diesel engines work off compression. So they have a higher compression ratio compared to a gasoline engine. They use the compression and heat to "ignite" the diesel fuel when it is injected into the cylinders. Unlike a gas engine, that uses spark plugs that ignite the gasoline. So basically that means, it is harder to turn over the engine to get it started. You will want to keep both batteries for starting.

Re: Two starting batteries?

We start our diesel engine with one 12v battery. We also started our Eagle (8v71N65) with the same size battery, We used to start the Eagle during the winter with the single 12v battery

Re: Two starting batteries?

hmm what size battery, Lorna? I've the DT466 (1995) and it has International brand batteries but I can't read what type. Maybe if I upped the size a bit and just bought one?
