Re: Wheelchair lift extension dilemna. Any ideas?

We just took a trip to Texas, and used ours for the dirt bikes. One of them was HUGE. KTM 950, with the biggest tanks ever made for that bike.
We just bolted a 2X12 to the bottom of the lift when we were moving bikes in and out. Temporary, but I will be using something else eventually.
I know I have a picture here somewhere...

Here's the beast on it's way in for the first time. We all crossed our fingers. I should point out that the lift chain broke a day before, and we shoved screws in it to hold for the duration of the trip. It made it, somehow.

I also, was planning on making an extension that slides out, Would be pretty simple too. Doesn't have to be terribly wide, as you can see from what we used, we had no trouble at all with the narrow platform. You do have to make sure you get it on there though.

Excellent. Wow, your lift really comes out FAST. Mine is so slow I could go for coffee. Still, I am not in a hurry, after all, it's a school bus. Like when we drove across the country, never have I gone so far, so slowly.
I am still set on using a flat ramp, I will find the right thing yet, just haven't put any time into it.

This is an old as post I know.
but as I am reading every post on the AT545 there is I came across this

I used the wheelchair tie down rails that I had cut out of the bus.

I welded together a frame that slides and stores INSIDE the OEM wheel chair lift. When I wish to deploy the bike I fold the lift out, slide the "extension" out and only 4 bolts hold it in (2 each side)

Takes about 5 min to setup and stow

I carry a full sized Yamaha 650 V-Star Classic (the bigger one) in the back of a 1998 Thomas Vista bus.

I will post a vid to youtube if anyone is interested in seeing it

again, I know an old post... but I thought I would update to say it can easily be done.. the exension weighs about 20 lbs only too

I would like to see the video. We use our wheelchair lift for getting a variety of things in and out of the workshop in the rear of our bus so a modification like that could be useful.

I think I am doing this right so let me know

1. Time lapse of what I made and how it goes together. Sorry not so good with the smart phone yet and am still learning

2. Another one with sound showing up and down

3. With me on it the first go around... now I just lift the bike and not me as well

cheers

Looks like it works just fine, great idea! The chair rails that were in our bus are aluminium so they won't work for the extension, but I'm sure I can make something up like that for ours.
