Ford 7.3L Easy start if prepared.
This 7.3 is the same as my Int bus ride. These are an easy keep engine. These engines are also known as the IDI engines. The IDI means Indirest Injection or as some da mechanical engine. The next engine also a 7.3l is know as the power stroke, the electronic computer engine. Go to the bus with.... a couple fully charged batteries that show 12.6 volts, couple cans of start fluid, a least 5gallons of fuel to add to the tank, and some good diesel start jumper cables. This engine has some glow plugs so some care must be used. If the engine is spinning/turning, use the start fluid in short half minutes squirts. If the engine is not turning, NO squirting. There could be some fire, noise and serious mechanical problems. Make sure the battery cables are carefully tightened. Don't drag the batteries down to nothing. While starting the 7.3, have the jumpers connected to a running car, truck, or another bus..When the key is first turned, step on the throttle to set the high idle on the fuel pump. When the engine temp reaches about 125 degrees, the high idle will go to a standard idle of 600 RPMs.
After a complete engine warm up, check the fluids. Go for a ride slowly. Carefully watch the volt meter, oil pressure gage and lastly the temp gage. This is too easy. Some times some difficulty is encountered because of a lost prime. This is easy to correct also. Frank
