Re: How to release parking brake B700?

Uh-oh. You have the dreaded Lucas-Girling hydraulic brakes. That uses sspring brakes (like an air system) that are released by pressure from the PS pump. They won't release with the engine off, though there MUST be a way to disengage them for towing.

Short answer: I have no idea. I suggest calling a truck shop that knows these brakes or a heavy-haul towing company.

Use a wrench and back off the rear brake pots just like air brakes.

It is the only hydraulic brake system that works this way.

Front is not engaged by the parking brake.

The pots are next to each set of wheels under the drive axle (if I'm remembering correctly). They are cylindrical and should be quite obvious.

Something like this:

I have a 1988 Ford B600/Ward with this hydraulic brake system and I’ve purchased an Allison 1000 to replace the original Allison 545. Other than gaining double overdrive, I will also have a parking pawl as well as a driveshaft parking brake that are included with the transmission. My question is: has anyone in the skoolie world ever considered removing the hydraulic parking brake system in lieu of a mechanical parking brake system? And/or would it be more trouble than it’s worth?
Thanks in advance...
