Question Has the c5500 durmax diesel served you well?

Hi!

I'm considering a 2003 bus with a c5500 durmax diesel and allison transmission. I don't know a lot about this particular engine. How does it compare in durability to similar ones of that year? (7.3l DT466)

Thank you!

You can learn quite a bit about diesel engines by studying their "B" ratings. Here is a site that explains simply enough what they are.

The people over on Pirate4X4 forums say all duramax enginee need a set of injectors about every 90K miles.

Not the most reliable engines, but way better than a Ford 6.0L diesel. The Duramax gets good fuel economy and plenty of power. Repairs on these engines kind of suck like raising the cab from the frame to replace injectors. Around here we get lots of electrical issues on these trucks because of the wiring and fuse boxes above the RF tire.

My buddy has one. Not the greatest engine but miles better than a 6.0 ford/international!
