This thread has been very educational. I will start to keep notes on things I need to know about buses, and especially shorties, so much of the info shared here by you very knowledgeable and generous folks will definitely go into those notes!
By the way, ECCB, if this is a VBulletin-based forum, all posts composed **entirely** in caps are disallowed, but if you have at least some of the post in lower case (I'm not sure if there's a minimum number of lower case characters needed), then you can cap all the rest. That's just how VBulletin works.

So did I find my shorty?
1999 GMC 4 windows.
350 engine with 76k miles
Single rear tires, thinner body.
Price dropped to $3400.
This is the smallest possible skoolie that I can buy, just what I wanted it initially.
We'll see how things develop [emoji2]

awwwe it looks like it was a Kinder-Care bus.. I remember riding a ford as a kid the one (horrible) summer my parents put us in there.. lol..
looks like a pretty simple bus to deal with. and sounds like with the minimal conversion you are planning to do the single rear wheels wont present a weight issue as you wont be towing or have heavy stuff like big water tanks and such.

Lol yeah, I just noticed the sticker.
Comparing it to a van, this is just like a high top van. [emoji106]

I agree. and it looks like the top is pretty decent height too.. if you think you'll have trouble driving it then keep all of your mirrors.. ive kept all the mirrors.. (even the bus-boy hood mirrors) on both busses for ease of driving and parking

Copy that.
I'm just waiting to hear from 'the future god father of my unborn daughter'. Hopefully he finishes his lawn cutting route and is not too beat up.

No it wasn't allowing me to even use caps for one whole word. Some sort of glitch maybe, as its normal NOW!

So if you DON'T change the title of your bus to rv. Does the tag look any different than the tag on a regular vehicle?
Basically, my HOA doesn't let RVs to be parked in the drive way, so I can argue that I use it as a cargo van for work.
FYI, I live in Florida.

Oh, boy. Only you would know if they are weenies about enforcement or not. No RV, but work truck is ok?
East CoastCB, our Florida expert???
What's your Plan B ?

Plans B, parents house or local home depot. My HOA is weird. The only thing they enforce is RV. They let boats, trailers, large trucks, cargo vans, etc.
I'm pretty confident I can pull it off as long as I have regular tag and registration on it.

Hoa are a pain. Does it specifically say in your driveway? And does it mention commercial vehicles? Ours does. But they don't mess with me though they can. I also don't have the bus at the house all the time. But they can usually make life very difficult ESP if someone complains

If I end up buying that little bus and don't leave it in my drive way 24/7. I should be good.
Our HOA recently switched to following only the city and state rules.
Getting back to the tag and registration question. Does it look any different than a regular car?

Thats the rub, selective enforcement. Boards change and so do interpretations depending on parties favor.
I imagine they are appearance differences between plates for RV and work truck for easy ID, like my State.

Yup, selective enforcement indeed. The head of the HOA has boats, yet skis, etc. So guess what, anything water related is okay.lol

thing is unless its spelled out water related you could make a case that his boat is an 'RV'. or at least the trailer for it is..
as far as wehat the tag looks like.. id go drive around and see if people campers have 'motor home' written on the tag or not.. they dont here in ohio..
with a bus like that it very well may be under CDL and can just be left as a bus until you get someplace to store it permanently.. my red bus is still a bus.. and my HOA technically cant touch it though they could yell if they wanted as its not an RV.. and it doesnt have a DOT number so its not a "large commercial vehicle" that they might try and ding me on..
see if theres also a provision that specifies driveway.. I know here if it fits in my driveway and doesnt stick over the sidewalk and is in operable order with legal tags they cant touch it either.. alot of times these bylaws have lots of holes in them and the HOA figures no one would ever challenge one..

Private, not-for-profit plates all look the same. I just changed the title on one of mine to "MH" and the plate is still on it, still the same plate.
Only time you'll get a different plate is if you're registering a commercial rig to be used for profit, then you'll get apportioned tags by weight.

YOu may want to REALLY find out about all this, or you could end up with some real headaches.

Nah, I'm not stressed out about it at all.
Only thing that stressed me are mechanical problems.
Worst case scenario, I leave at my parents house.
All good.[emoji106]

Ah, that's cool that you have a backup storage plan. That's a MUST, IMO. My folks won't even open the gate to the driveway if I show up in anything that was ever a school bus.
Too many people up and buy a bus without considering the most basic stuff, like where to park it lol.
I'm getting excited for you, I think you'll be one happy bus family!
