2003 T444E Coolant Overflow / Fill tank
The tank says Max Fill and Add ... should this reading be taken hot (during operating expansion of the coolant & thermostat cycling) or cold (during contraction of coolant & closed stat)? Gasser tanks usually say Full Hot & Add but Im not assuming anything on these diesels ...

So, if you looked at that bottle when the engine is cold you would hopefully see the level somewhere between Add and Full which is good. Then warm the engine up or drive and check when it idles down for a few minutes. has the level changed and in which direction as the thermostat works?
With a properly heated engine you should have the fluid at the full mark as it idles. If not top it up then.

Of course just before we left Maryland for good .... the old land lord wasnt ready to let go .... on a cash run I had a severe pain in my left shoulder ... it felt cardiac so we went to the er ... i ended up on the table for a quad bypass heart operation the next day.... im 6 days on the other side now feelin pretty good

If your coolant surge tank has an overflow tube (ideally feeding into a separate overflow container instead of straight onto the ground), then you can overfill the coolant, and when it reaches full temperature the excess will run out through the overflow. After the engine has fully cooled the remaining coolant in the surge tank will be at the maximum cold fill level. Easy! Don't forget to bleed out any trapped air if the cooling system doesn't self-bleed, otherwise you will get a false reading of coolant level.

I have the same engine, but my bus is a 1999; how exactly do you bleed out the air without emptying all the antifreeze?
I'm trying to get my bus ready for winter and I just filled it up with antifreeze, and left it running for hours but it won't heat up?

take it easy and dont over do it!!!!! thats one of the leading cause of failure in recovery from that surgery!!!!

Thanks Cadillac I feel really good ... better by the day. Lucille is running strong into Colorado today! If I see you at Skooliepalooza I need your help turning off a timer option thats set on my engine limiting idle time to 5 minutes ... it shuts the engine down ... even if im using high idle w/ cruise control.

ive seen that setting in mine.. never knew what it did so i didnt turn it on.. I did change my idle mode to auto so if my engine temp drops, the computer auto idles the engine up and down to maintain coolant temp.
not sure i can go to skooliepalooza.. since i dont camp.. and if I did id have to run a genny all night for heat or A/C and last year was told no gennies allowed all night.. if I can find a motel near by with parking lot big enough for a bus id definitely go to it.
