The EBP sensor tells the EBP valve what to do, but the problem usually lies with the valve actuator. It _will_ leak oil eventually (everyone's does, it seems), may stick, all sorts of things...
If it is stuck in the closed position then you'll have no power and the engine will sound strange.
Mine wasn't working. I removed it. Easy fix.

my bus came from texas.. it never had one.. i didnt believe it but turns out they were made without.. confirmed that my ECM was programmed with it disabled..

there are various methods to remove as jatzy knows.. you can even buy a turbo pedestal for one that never had it.. have someone change the EBPV setting in the ECM to disable. no codes and done..

ive driven my bus in below 0 weather and it still warms up nicely.. assuming the thermostat is good... the 444E is notorious for defective thermostats that stick partially open so the engine never warms up..

Great , congrats , you got it running. Must make you feel good that You did it.
smelling exhaust might come from the pipes going from the headers to the Y with the turbo.
There are some seals in there that leak . You can see it in black soot streaks along the pipes.
Pretty easy fix. The leaks before the turbo effect both sound and power.

1996 International Isn't Starting

Hello there!

I have a 1996 International school bus that is not starting.

A diagnostic report resulted in 10 fault codes:

325
123
124
622
223
152
253
122
242
543

Can anyone please help me troubleshoot this issue?

You resurrected a 5 year old thread. You need to do three things:
1) Start a NEW THREAD

2) Charge your batteries
3) Reset your codes
4) Try restart.

I too have a 1996 though mine is labeled as an AmTran. The first time I had a no start I freaked out. Turned out it was just low batteries. Not way low, just a bit low. Remember 12 volts from a 12 volt battery is a half charged battery at best.
YOU MOST LIKELY simply have low batteries (unless you've been cutting wires and then all bets are off).

TO CLEAR YOUR CODES

Look next to your diagnostic connector under teh dash. You are looking for a green button (you may have used it to pull your codes).
Press teh button and hold
Turn Key on
Floor teh accellerator pedal three times QUICKLY
Key off
Wait 20-30 seconds.

Thank you for getting back to me! I couldn't seem to find the start new thread button so i figured I'd find a message thread and start from there. Your response was very thorough. Much appreciated! I will start with replacing the battery and see if that works. Thanks again!

THE battery?

these should have 2 batteries.. you dont necessarily need to replace it.. Charge it first with a real battery charger plugged into an outlet.. (ie a 15 amp charger left on it overnight). is a good start.. they will start on a single battery if its big enough.. group 31 or 8D but likely wont start on a single small regular car battery if its at all cold outside..

Could you please send me the code list? I have a ‘99 International 7.3. I swapped the AT545 for an A2000. Now she won’t start. I’m trying a few things I’ve researched and if they don’t work I will be starting a new thread. Having the code breakdown would be most helpful!!

I forgot to mention, it’s not from the swap. I’ve driven her a few thousand miles since then. I suspect something to do with injectors, fuel or oil pressure.

Huh?

Where are there fuse holders in the battery box? And what causes them to blow or melt?

on my bus there are no fuse holders but there are 2 separate wire connectors that come off to 2 pin weatherpak connectors.. one of mine was a bit corroded so i changed it. the only ECM fuses that ive found are in my dashboard fuse box (seaprate fuse panel from the Bus-body fuses).. ECM BAT and DIAG both have to be good for the bs to spin over the starter.
