have any of you ever known international to source chassis parts from other oem? maybe the brake pads and or rotors can be found from GM or another supplier? in other words, is it possible to find IH parts from the aftermarket?

Pads and rotors should be fairly universal. If you have a local auto/truck parts store, check there for the IH model number (International 3800, 3000, etc). Depending on the powerplant, engine parts are fairly universal, ie the T444E is also the Ford Powerstoke 7.3L

Pull the problem one and see if NAPA has replacement parts, especially if they have a medium/heavy duty truck section, or can at the very least order the necessary parts. If not, then IH. Or an internet check.

For brakes shoes, drums, and wheel seals you will probably be able to get them from NAPA or CarQuest. When I worked at CarQuest we had such things in stock. As to other parts your availability is slim outside purchasing them from a dealer sadly.

Napa can get pretty much anything. It can take some work though. Trucks are put together in many different configurations. It's best to bring the part in as they often have to measure stuff and use the paper catalogs.

thanks guys. answers are always appreciated. seems napa does carry the calipers! expensive tho. i have yet to find caliper rebuild kits. i would rather rebuild than replace as rebuilding gives peace of mind that they are done right as opposed to being done by a third world sweat shop assembly line. wouldnt want any rice kernels in our brake system!!!

Napa has lots of parts and yes you pay for them, I have gotten some parts right from blue bird bus builder, there are blue bird bus dealers, and there prices are not bad, heres a link to a place I use they have sales flyers every couple months, when you go to the site down load the parts promo http://www.girardinbluebird.com/content ... ieces.aspx

Look and see what kind of axle was used first off. If it was a Rockwell you can get parts at any truck shop around. Napa does carry just about every part imaginable, the key is finding a counterman that has the tenacity and knowledge to find what you are looking for, and doesn't turn his nose up at a little dirt or grease. Good luck with the rebuild kits, unless it's a numbers matching classic car nobody rebuilds calipers anymore. As for the quality about reman calipers, I've only seen one that was bad and leaked because of a cut seal (it was actually a motorcraft part too) so I wouldn't worry too much.

I've never been a fan of Napa pricewise. If they have the part in stock and I need it, I don't mind paying more. There are truck parts houses that have many of the parts you need. An International dealer should be able to print out a build sheet that will list everything your bus has. E.g. Spicer, Rockwell, Meritor, Bendix, etc.

I'm looking for some brake parts to get my 1966 Superior Bus on a IHC chassis.
Its a model 1853 FC, W.B. 208 and I have one rear leaky brake seal. I don't know where to get components to repair it or who refurbishes these old bus brake cylinders.

If it is on an International chassis, they are the ones to talk to. No idea how long they keep parts but a local IH repair facility may be able to locate some.



Start by getting the model of truck chassis your bus was built on.


Example:


My 1946 Wayne School Bus is actually a 1946, 1-1/2 ton, 165" wheelbase Chevy truck underneath. Those are the parts to locate.
