Can you tell transmission type from Vin?

I found a 99 3800 with a 466e. I was wondering how to tell which trans is in it. I have the vin number, the owner told me it was a 4 speed

If you call International and give them the vin they can tell you.

The online decoders will not give transmission info.

You got the good tranny with 6 speeds even though it has only 5 open now. Follow the unlock threads to see how you can gain the extra overdrive and save in fuel economy.

Often VIN decoder/build sheets will not list the specific tranny in them. you have an 1996 International 3800, Navistar 444/V8, air brakes, made in Springfield ,Ohio. You need to run the VIN on the chassis for the tranny info.

So its a AT545... . The only information I‘m still try to find is the diff ratio. Is that something the VIN is telling? Btw found a VIN on the chassis but it is actuall the same as on the plates. Cheers Volker

Axle ratio should be on a badge above the windshield.

I've not had one yet with that, but I've seen it on Bluebirds I think.

My axles all have the ratio on the housing on a tag.
