DT466E tempreture
Hi Everyone,
I know I saw a thread about this but cant find it? I have a DT466E, I removed all the heaters except the stairwell heater and the engine doesn't seem to reach temperature? It still runs great but the gauge doesn't seem to clear 125? My concern is once it gets colder out and I start using the remaining heater it may not put out any heat? And it doesn't seem to run as well until I get under way and it warms up ( sitting for 15 mins or so doesn't do the trick) I checked the fan and it turns freely when its cold so its not seized? Any suggestions?

125? that could be the tranny oil temp gauge. operating temps for those are usually 100 degrees over ambient outside temp. when you deleted the heaters, did you loop them to return to the radiator? are any of the valves closed that led to the heaters? bad thermostat? bad temp gauge? you are definitely running hotter than 125. the problem is elsewhere.

I did loop the heaters back, and TYPO on the 125 should have read 175 I will pay closer attention and record it when I leave here. Do you know what it should run at and do people use covers for the front in winter to help with this? I also didn't mention my high idle switch is not working so that might fix my warm up problem

my DTA360 runs about 175-180. unless im pushing it.. that bus has automatic shutters that close up during the warm up period.. while I think the yare a neat feature.. occasionally they stick, and I have to watch the temp closely as on the highway even in cold weather things get warm with those all the way closed.
driving around in town there are days they will never open. I wouldnt recommend putting covers on the front for highway travel , if you plan to idle or cruise around town they definitely make things nice n warm inside.

Most claim the 466e to run ~175-180F
I wouldn't be too worried about it. If it runs too cool come winter, make a winter cover for part of the radiator.

In the front of the radiator, there is a thing that looks like a big metal mini-blind. It is actuated by air and opens/closes to restrict airflow if needed...

they were an option on many busses.. my DEV bus came from ohio and being a wheelchair unit, it spent alot of time idling.. that short bus came with 7 heaters in it.. at idle it doesnt take long for the engine temp to drop low enough that the thermostat closes..
the automatic shutters are designed on that one to open at 200 and close at 190 .. the thermostat is 180.. in the winter with the shutters open all the time the engine barely gets above 180.. ..maybe 185 at most..
if the shutters are closed then the whole radiator feels up with hotter coolant .. an extra few gallons of coolant at 190 degrees helps to keep things warm longer when you idle down and load in a wheelchair passenger or 2..
I piut a switch on mine where I can turn them off in summer... otherwise they will be closed even in mid-summer when you first start out..
it keeps me from having to put a cover on front, a cover that I would have to constantly mess with. if I am using it to go to coffee shops in town vs a long road trip on the highway where I want the grille open..
I see them on busses in junkyards up north quite often.. they are easy to pull off and install on another bus..

Air actuated louvers. The buyer of the bus told me to leave the louvers off after I removed them for repair. The bus was going to Honduras and they don't get cold there. These had already been disabled by the school by detaching the airline to it.
