International t444e icp

Hi, my bus is a 2002 t444e. I'm pretty sure my icp sensor is bad. Can I use a ford sensor? Big price difference. Thanks.

Flash codes indicate that my ICP is bad as well. So, I'm watching the responses. Is there a reputable (Online)after market substitute for the International remanufactured parts?

Thanks guys. Still trying to start me bus.

I think the answer to that is no. All the aftermarket sensors on Amazon have horrible reviews. Amazon has a genuine Ford part for $140 that I am eyeing. I just need to figure out if they are compatible first.

I viewed a couple HPOP w/ ICP included from a parts seller online @ about $450.00 for both. Read somewhere that IH and Ford have flaws in their HPOP units and I betcha I'm gonna be replacing both before this is over.

Ya know, I read it online. Must be true.

Replaced my icp sensor with a genuine Ford replacement part and it fixed my whole problem!! Up until about 2003 you can use a ford part.

2003 is last model year of 444E.. the 99.5's had some updates.. some parts from pre 99 are different to the later models.. many parts from 94-96 are different... so pay attention to yearsd.. ESPECIALLY with cam sensors and injectors..

if you have a Nexiq and NavKal, update the firmware in the ECM.. several fixes in the navistar which refer to a TSI campaign were done that apply to the 98+ ECM'S. esp in reference to cold start / idle and throttle response..

and yes dont use cheap aftermarket ICP and IPR units.. use either ford or navistar.

same with Glowplugs.. cheap aftermarket glowplugs are BAD NEWS to the 444E...

the sensor is also rebuildable if you are interested in going the cheapest route.

Rube - am glad to hear you fixed the issue.

This ICP is my first interaction with the local IH dealer. Called and spoke with the friendly parts person. He asked for the last 8 of my vin. The nice guy said the part would cost $240.00 + tax+ $36.00 shipping. I've no doubt he's looking up the correct part. He mentioned this was an OEM ICP.

While I would really like to establish a "relationship" with a local dealer, I doubt very much that it will be with this crew.

In my experience, the way I learn an engine is to work on it myself. I've bookmarked a couple legitimate looking IH dealer websites that I'll call and see what they can do for a price. Their shipping is $12.95.

Sounds like I need to find out if I have an early year 1999 or a later year 1999.

Thanks Cadillackid and E450 and Rube for the info and help with the learning curve.

on the side of the engine.. the left side i believe is an engine serial number, thats what determines late or early model year. there is a serial number cut off.. I'll have to look it up.. but its in the mid 900,000's I think. and is around feb of 1999 manufacture date...

The Ford sensor is way cheaper than what International quoted, around $150 or so. The Ford and IHC parts are interchangeable.

Look for oil pooling where the connector pins are. It's a sign of a bad sensor. The PCM throwing codes is the best check but most of us don't have scanners.

The Ford part takes a 1 1/16" deep well to install for those of us with cramped van engine rooms. Check the pigtail too. Some have wires that have become brittle or cracked.

I know this is an old thread but it seems an appropriate place to ask.

I have a 125 code and am working on troubleshooting it and I am trying to find a diagram of the ECM pin numbers. Anyone know where to find these?

Starting in the last month my idle creeps up higher and higher in neutral when warmed up. Driving it the other day the engine warn light popped on.
Found the diagnostic button flashed the warn light got active code 124 for IPC signal low.
I start looking for a new IPC sensor and the prices are everywhere. Carquest / advanced shows 109.99 AutoZone 119.99 or 159.99 napa is listing 3 listed 185 387 419 called international at there price is 390 plus shipping.
All but international dont state the manufacturer just say oem or oem compatible. Is the 109 really the same as the 390? Would the 159 with pigtail a good choice?
Never have I seen such a wide swing for a part.
Its quite confusing

out of range signal low is the harder one to troubleshoot.. it can be caused by the sensor itself being defective.. also can be caused by a poor wiring connection, or a short to ground on the circuit..

I bought my ICP and IPR from dieselsite. in my case the pins in my connector were ver yclean so I didnt change the pigtail.. if the pins look corroded or if there's oil in the connector then I would change the pigtail as well.

I have heard of people having issues with "dorman" brand sensors on these engines so I have stayed away from buying any of that brand..

Thanks for the quick response, yes the autozone cheapest were dorman. The mid and upper grades didnt specify a manufacturer. Id hate to spend 400 on a 150 part. I will call napa tomorrow and see if they can spill on the manufacturer.

The other thing I have a question on while checking the oil, the upper heating hose is solid no movement. The lower has solid pipe and union attachments, there is a bit of movement, any idea if thats normal? It settles over the dip stick and lifts slash moves forward a little and the dipstick can come out. I occasionally smell a coolant smell. The pressure cap holds pressure for a week.
