No Crank 1994 Int'l Thomas Vista 3600

I have a 1994 Int'l Thomas Vista 3600 that will not crank. It has new batteries, a new starter and the upper solenoid is getting power. When I insert the key the wait to start light comes on briefly and the arms on the gauges move up and back. When the wait to start light goes off I turn the key nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea what I'm should check? Also if someone has a wiring diagram they could share I'd be very grateful.

I originally posted this in the general Mechanical and Drivetrain thread and than saw the International subthread. Requested a mod close that one and posted here.

I think the first thing I would look at is the ignition switch it seems too easy but that's what I would look at. Can you jump the starter solenoid with a jump wire?

There are a bunch of safety switches that will prevent it from cranking. They should trigger a buzzer if activated but the buzzer may be disabled. I have a 3600 short bus and the switches are ont he roof hatch (must be latched), emergency ide windows (must be closed and latched), and the back door (lever must be all the way down to trigger the latch switch!) It also needs to be in neutral.

brokedown – there is a buzzer when I attempt to start – I'd forgotten to include info. The back down lever is down, but I'll check the others. Is there a diagram inside the outside panel on the driver's side of the bus? If so could you attach a photo please? Thanks!

milkmanchip – I'll take a look at the ignition switch too

Thanks!

If you're able to, turn the key to "run" so the buzzer stats and start wiggling safety latches and see if one shuts it up. My back door buzzer was wonky, if you use the locking mechanism (a pin) you couldn't start the bus. Safety with kids I guess you can't drive a bus if the emergency exit is locked. I disabled the safety switch on the back door and the roof hatch but left the others in place.

I don't have a diagram, all my info was trial and error!

even if i dont wait for my gauges to sweep my bus will start right up...

the starter should spin regardless .. sure sounds like an interlock somewhere..

I would echo all of the concerns about interlocks preventing the starter to engage.

And please double check the transmission is in neutral!
