Rear Diff Tags?

I discovered an envelope today in the cabinet thing above the driver's seat, labelled "Rear Diff Tags". Inside are two tags, one is about 1" x 3" and has the number "02122518" stamped on it. The other tag is about 2" x 4" and has this stuff stamped on it:

MODEL 19060SIS (or maybe 19060NS or something)

Also has SPICER in the upper right corner.

Does this tell me anything about my bus? I still don't know exactly what type of transmission I have (I think my seller said it was an MD2050 but I can't find this anywhere; the mechanic who just looked at my bus said it was a 7000-series based on what was written on the transmission but I assume that's 2000-series).

I’m thinking your gear ratio might be 6.17... which is good for stop and go not so good for highway speeds. My old bus had 6.14 but I could be wrong about yours.

I believe Spicer is a brand name for the differentials.

The transmission could be a MD3060 which is a fairly common trans and it’s a pretty good one. I’ve never heard of a MD2050.

How big is the bus and what engine?

11 windows, DT466. The bus can do 65 and maybe faster (I think anyway - my one trip on the highway I was too nervous to notice my RPMs).

It might say on one of your vin stickers what the transmission is. If it is a md3060 there’s a long thread about unlocking the 6th gear so you can get your rpm’s down a little on the highway. It’ll only bring them down a little though like from 2500 to 2250 or so.

On my old Thomas with the 6.14 rear end ratio the rpm’s were at 2500 when going 65 mph. If you notice it next time your out. Those rpm’s don’t make for good gas mileage unfortunately.

A 10% reduction in RPM at highway speeds is helpful for fuel mileage and general wear and tear on the engine.

My last bus had the same setup but with 5.29 and I wanted higher gearing.
