the governor on the air compressor actuates the valve unloaders in the head of the compressor.. its very possible that the springs on the valve unloaders can stick.
if you have a Tu-Flo 550 compressor, the complete unloader mechanism can be removed, cleaned, and serviced with just removing the plate on top of the compressor head near the intake..
if you have a Tu-Flo 501. you can remove the inlet filter assembly.. or inlet manifold that has a hose on it. to reach the unloaders.. you can spray it with a good spray lubicrant like a graphite garage-door spring lubricant. and then cycle the system, up and down to see if it gets better..
