Time for new house batteries...

Starting my search...
My 2 house batteries are starting to get sluggish, plus the weather is cooling.
Any suggestions that's worked for you or what hasn't worked well?

An expensive option.

This surely isn't the best bang for the buck, but I'm new to all this. There definitely has to be a cheaper way.

oh hell, I misspoke....

I'm needing starting batteries, not house batteries.
It was early and I was thinking house batteries as opposed to solar batteries

it was early, and I didn't sleep worth a dang

Starting batteries are easy. Most brands come off just a few assembly lines so find a seller that gives a decent warranty at a decent price and go for it. It's best to replace both at the same time and get batteries with the same "born on" date if possible.

No need to look at AGM or LioN.

ok, currently I have two PowerVolt Maximum High Voltage batteries (threaded posts) marketed by PowerVolt Batteries in Dallas Texas... I don't see the CCA rating on either battery, but they were bought February 2011.... so, I figure that's a pretty good run... for batteries!

I priced 2 Group 31 Interstate batteries at $119.00 exchange, plus tax.
Then I priced 2 "Pro-Series" group 31's @ 101.00 exchange, plus tax.

Also, I priced ONE 8D battery for $164.00 exchange, plus tax.
What are the drawbacks of using one 8D, instead of 2 group 31's?

I've got plenty of room for an 8D.
This salesman said if I run two 1100 CCA batteries in 12v series, I get 2200 CCA... does this sound right? I don't think so.

Tomorrow, I'm going to call Truck Pro and Fleet Pride diesel equipment warehouses and find out their prices. My diesel mechanic buddy seems to think each of these places will hit around the $89.00 mark for Group 31's ... Santa Claus likes the sound of that!

It's not. Two in series is 24v, 1100CCA. You need them in parallel. 12v 2200CCA.

The thing to remember: series increases voltage, parallel increases amperage.

Unrelated item but still good to know.... For house batteries you can connect multiple series strings in parallel to get an increase in both. 12 6v 230ah batteries connected 4 in series x 3 strings in parallel gives you 24v 690ah.

As a level 1 burglar, Bilbo got a pony when he accompanied the level 60 dwarves on the Smaug the Dragon raid. Those powerlevelers probably invited him solely so he could trigger fellowship attacks for them.

Got it
I think I'd rather have two 1100 CCA Group 31's for 2200 CCA than one 1250 CCA 8D ...

If one of the diesel equipment stores hits $89, then I'm golden and Santa survives

Yep your diagram is spot on.

And hopefully you hit that $89 sweet spot on the batts..... that way you get your 2200CCA for only a little more than the 8D with only 1250 would have been.

$26.00 Core Charge

Fleet Pride
925 CCA $92.60 +tax
1000 CCA $94.95 +tax
$22.50 Core Charge

So, a couple bucks higher, CCA a little less.... but still looks like a pretty sweet deal.

Starts right up at 8°

Chugs about 20-30 seconds, then straightens out.
