Warn Engine Light

I have a 2005 FE300 with a DT 466. I am getting an intermittent Warn Engine light but am unable to diagnose it. My bus does not appear to have an engine diagnostics button but does have a J1708/J1587 type diagnostics port.

Does anyone know how I would be able to get the codes?

Thank you.

Not only does it read codes, it also works as 4 digital gauges when you're driving.

But yeah, handy little code reader.

When I do get the code(s) how do I translate them?

The codes will be displayed by their numerical identifiers in the "Code" section of the scangauge menu.

Below is IIRC the codes for the dt466. I've got scans of an actual book that I'm 100% sure, but these files seem to be lost in the oblivion that is around 5tb of backups. I'll post these or PM you if you want when I find them.

I am in Washington State but I appreciate the offer!

I went ahead and purchased the ScanGuage from Advance Auto Parts delivered for $130. Couldn't pass it up to have an on-board diagnostic tool at my disposal.

I appreciate this community! Thank you to all!

make sure you ordered the scangauge D and not the Scangauge II. the scangauge D is the one with the round deutsch connectors you need for your bus diagnostics... the scangauge II is the one for OBD-II for consumer cars..

In our IH3800 w/ DT466E I would get an intermittent engine warning lamp sometimes accompanied by the shrill beeping of a warning. Sometimes no light at all but just beeping. I ended up pulling the gauge cluster and resoldering the gauge contacts for good measure. Stopped the issue. I used to be concerned by the ever impending possibility of cylinder liner o-ring failure and coolant in the oil. So far so good though!

Update.

I installed my Scangauge and it first asked me which bus? J1709 or J1939. I assumed J1939 and it gave me a fault code of 623_04_127. As I was toggling through the menu when I went back to the codes it read 2 faults,
#1, 796_5_1
#2, 795_5_1

Any input on what this could mean would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Jeff

If your engine is pre 2008 use j1708. The j1939 on these is for the transmission.

Cadillackid, thank you for the clarification.

The engine is 2004 so the j1708 codes;
#1, 8_5_1
#2, 7_5_1

The transmission j1939 codes;
#1, 796_5_1
#2, 795_5_1

Does anyone know what these are pertaining to?
Thank you.

wierd codes... im assuming the way you are posting them it is PID_FMI_CNT

the codes are 3 digits on navistar.

if you clear the codes, then restart the engine does the WARN light come on and save new codes?

Cadillackid, yes the codes are posted as PID_FMI_CNT.

I cleared the codes and restarted and they reappeared right away. Keep in mind the warn engine light is not on to show these codes. I then drove the bus long enough to get the light to come on which took 30+ miles and a third code appeared.

J1708

#1, 8_5_1
#2, 7_5_1
#3, 102_2_0

Any ideas?

Thank you again.

code 7 and code 102 reference that your turbo boost sensor is erratic.. at this point you may want to try and display PID 102 as an X-gauge and see what it does as you drive down the road..

if those J1939s are SPN's they are ABS controller codes... no idea how real that is?
