What can I do with the 345 in my S1723

I'm going to have to replace or rebuild the IH 345 in my IH S1723 bus. I'm thinking replace but with a Diesel. The bus has the 345 w Spicer 5 spd. Does anyone know what Diesels I might be able to swap in with a minimum of trouble and expense??

One guy told me a series 1 or 2 Dodge Cummins would go in.. I know a guy with one in a marine application and hes getting amazing power..

I'm thinking one of the heads is shot on the 345 and it seems that would be a cheaper fix but wouldn't that 345 be a real dog on the road in a conversion?

Thanks,
Byrd
