1997 bluebird all American - Leaking Tan/clearish fluid from steering gear

Hello everyone,

I'm leaking some fluid around/if not from my steering gear just under the drivers seat. Any ideas. Is this power steering fluid? It's tan, clearish, oily.

I'm driving a '97 bluebird all American, cummins 8.3.

Steering assist and engine fan (hydraulic) share the same circuit. Check your reservoir level.

Seals could be going bad on the box, or maybe a cracked hose or a fitting that's not tight.

if it is the steering gear it often leaks in one of 2 places.. where the steering shaft from the steering wheel goes in and where the pitman arm comes out...

you can usually see it pretty clearly.. both of those seals are replaceable without completely replacing the steering gear..

im not sure on a front engine bus if it can be done without removing the gear.. on a conventional it can.
most of our busses are using TRW steering gears..

Did you ever figure this out? We[U] are having similar symptoms.

The fluid in the steering gear on these uses Havolin motor oil for fluid
which is a light tan and semi clear. If you go onto the WOG, that's
Wanderlodge Owners Group web site they have a very good demonstration
by one of the members on how he replaced the steering shaft seal
without removing the steering gearbox. The reason for going to the
WOG for this information is that the Wanderlodge was built on the
All American chassis, same as you have.
