Question 2003 BB FE 5.9L 24V Battery/ Fuel Pump issue Bookmobile

Hey Skoolers-

I bought a bus (bookmobile) that I have not recovered or inspected. Bus hasn't been run in a few years and they are saying batteries are dead, sounds fair. They also say it may have fuel pump issues. Not sure if they mean lift or injection, but we all know which you would choose if you could...

Please take a look at the bus, was originally unfinished coach and is not standard school bus. I would love to hear more about it from those that know about these units.

1) What size batteries does this beast need? I'll bring extra amperage to assist in the cranking it will take to flush/prime the engine, just wondering what battery fits.

2) Low battery can cause gremlins and oddities- is the Bosch CP3 finicky about electric power, therefore fuel pressure where it may mimic bd pump.

I will change fuel filter with Baldwin PF7977, wherever it is located (assuming that is correct size ?)

Thanks for input.

my Bookmobile takes 3 group 31 batteries.

2 of them are starting batteries for the bus. 1 is a starting battery for the generator.

the bus will run fine with 2 of the 3 if you don;t need the genny.

your bus has an extra box on the drivers side.

the first is your battery box.
2nd one idk, maybe another battery for the gen

if it used an 8D battery for a start battery then it would need the 2nd box.

the 3rd is your generator.

just for the truck you are probably looking at a pair of group 31's or an 8D.

change the filters before you do much on the fuel pump.

Carytown- thanks, I picked it for the roof. I would have taken a shorter one, but as a tall guy, that roof spoke to me.Then a bathroom? an Onan generator with 1100 hours? I pulled trigger sight unseen.

turf- Thanks for the diagram. Could I stuff bigger batteries in there? Id' like to go 8D's in there, as Farm n fleet has them for $150/ea. Or at least group 35's? Sounds like we have almost same bus- I'll read your build.

Lot of folks, myself included, like a couple of g31's or even a few of em as opposed to an 8D.
I have to replace my two 31's. Buying em in the AM for $74 each at Rural King. The last ones lasted about three years. Got em on sale for $69 then!
I bet that sucker's got air ride!

Thanks, CB. I will do that, just parallel them together. Thanks!

Bagged bus? That would be sweet.

The siblings- Those looked nice, as well. More maneuverable vs extra space....

I bought ( and still have) this bus last year to convert. Drove it from Texas and it is super clean. V-10 cruises at 70mph and 2009 safety features, but I couldn't take the grinder to it- it was too damn nice She gotta go now as wifey is patient, but not TWO bus patient.

Took me a second to figure it concealed wheelchair door. You will see those monster piano hinges again in the build. First gotta get it running, then 150 miles...
