5.9 Cummins Tach stuck

Well, Cummins is new to me. 1997 Thomas. The tach is stuck in a position that it doesn't move. Any ideas?

The tachometer is driven off the alternator terminal (usually "w") and is not mechanical. Look to see if the electrical connection still works, or maybe the gauge is dead.

So if my alternator didn't work, the tach wouldn't either? Might have a charging problem...

This may or may not apply. I've had luck with stuck meters being re set by using a powerful magnet to sweep the meter back into the zero position. A strong magnetic field will do the trick without even removing the gauge from the dash.

Well, changed out the alternator, and no luck. Going to try the magnet trick, if that don't work, guess I need a new tach. Don't want to travel without one.
