'99 B.B., 8.3L Cummins w/ MT643 Tranny heat exchanger

Does anyone know what the part numbers are for the water inlet tubes and tranny heat exchanger? I believe my heat exchanger is shot. The metal water inlet and outlet are rusty as hell too so might as well replace those while under there.

About the transmission fluid, it's red like ATF but it doesn't stink. Is bus tranny fluid different? Sounds like the same old stuff that Auto Zone and the like carry.

most all of the allisons "standard" fluid is good ole DEXRON III like the old GM's used..

TES-295 fluids like Transynd are probably the best (but also expensive).. and as listed on the above list, certain motor oils (C4 designated) are acceptable.. the motor oils tended to stand up to heat better than regule ole ATF.. and the synthetics didnt exist when a lot of these Spec's were written.. 643s have been around a long time..

The hydraulic reservoir has a 15-40 oil weight sticker on it. I'm not certain on the exact weight; I have a picture of it somewhere. But the question is is that oil or tranny fluid? This is red like good old Dextron. Does this mean I'm running oil for the engine and tranny fluid? Oil isn't red. Seems odd that they would use two different fluids if regular old oil is approved for both.

Tranny fluid is nastier to get rid of (EPA), costs more (I think), and you'd have to have two different storage containers.
