Almost dead in the water please help!
97 bluebird 6bt mechanical motor 5.9 cummins
So please someone tell me how to read the engine warning light codes. She seems to be running fine she is blowing a little oil out of the big tube leading to the air cleaner and possibly the smaller intake tube (I think ) under that. ABOUT the light it was flickering for the last 150 miles but then stopped for 100 miles but this morning she came on flickering brighter and chirping almost ringing so I pulled into a t.a. And found out there is no 9 pin adapter for the code reader

Several thoughts come to mind immediately.
- Is this the maiden voyage for you in this bus?
- How many miles/hours are on the engine?
- What sort of roads have you been traveling--mountains, rolling hills, flats, etc.?
- What is the condition of the oil--when was it changed last?
- Is there fuel in the oil?
- What is your coolant level?
- What is the condition of your coolant?
- How hot is the engine getting?
- What is the condition of the air and fuel filters?
- How heavy is your bus?
- What light is flickering--can you post a picture of it?
- What type of Blue Bird bus is it--TC2000 or All American, FE or RE?
There are so many variables that it is hard to make a diagnosis. Given some more information we might be better able to help you figure out what is going on.
I have driven many miles in several different Blue Bird buses. I can remember lights and buzzers going off for low coolant, low oil pressure, overheating, and low air pressure. And sometimes they did just exactly like yours have done--the light isn't really coming on and the buzzer isn't quite buzzing.
If you can answer the above questions we might be able to answer your questions.
Good luck!

combustion is blowing by or thru the rings into the crank case and out the vent tubes, the worse it gets the more oil it will pic up. if its been sitting long it may just need to run awile to loosen things up. how is the oil pressure at idle and at highway speed?

The "big tube going to the air cleaner"? That is the intake air for the turbo. So either the small tube is feeding the oil and has the filter plugged, or the turbo is shucked. Either way, I'd be taking the air filter out to see what is going on. That could also be what is throwing a code. No boost pressure on the engine side of the turbo, or high vacuum on the filter side.
There has to be a diagnostic port somewhere on the rig to plug into.
Since there is oil in the air intake, is there smoke out the exhaust? If not, oil would not seem to be getting into the combustion, which is good.
What is the engine oil level? On the oil stick, smell the oil, is there a fuel smell?

Is this engine at risk of running away on the oil as a fuel source?

ve had this tc 2000 for a year and a half we put a new head last summer
Ive drove from s.f. To Bakersfield mostly flat . She hasnr been running hot although the temp gauge is up and down but always within running temp.
No gas in the oil. The sensor on the air cleaner says it's fine and it wasclean when we pulled it less than a thousand miles ago . The oil is dirty lookingshe has 2300,000 miles on her. The coolant is brand new and the level is fine. The light that is flickering and progressively getting worse is the only light I cant find in the manual and reads "engine warning" and is the light that comes on when I turn the key and goes off after starting.

x2 on it being a turbo problem
the turbo is the first thing in line after the aircleaner, oil coming out there suggests the turbo as the culprit.
i'm just re-assembling my turbo now. i think you'd have to remove the entire exhaust manifold to access the turbo, just to check it out.

So I taped over the light!
After deducing all possible outcomes I taped over the light and drove iver the grapevine .
Oil pressure and tempurature stayed perfect all the way to Palm springs. Just woke up east bound and down tuscon gem faire here we come. Thank you everone for there help god bless you folks and I hope I dont have any more threads on this trip. We're (me and my 4 year old) are going to tuscon then up to colorado and when things thaw out bak to s.f.

If it truly is a 6bt all mechanical there are no codes to pull.
The warning light you see is either for low oil pressure, low engine coolant, or high coolant temp.

Could also be water in fuel sensor as well. I'd check that as well because it's something that you might have forgotten.
The light is more of a check everything over light and not your stereotypical check engine light with codes.
