Doh!
Working on my fuel leak issue (solved BTW) my flashlight slipped from my hand and slid along the valve cover, hit the fan and dropped into the bottom of the fan shroud. It's laying there out of the way of anything, no danger of fan contact..Drove it 250 miles like this. I am concerned that someday the vibes of the 5.9 will cause damage to the rad. I can't reach it by hand, it's not ferrous metal and the shroud is about 14 ga metal so cutting a window isn't an easy option and there's not much room.
I have a few ideas but more couldn't hurt.
May have to pull the CAC and tip the rad. forward.

could you reach it with one of those spring-loaded claw grabbers? I guess it depends on how big the flashlight is...

How about a telescopic magnet....if the flash light is small and steel. Like the pointers the teachers used to smack ya with....don't ask.
.....oooor a monkey with little fingers?

if the magnet is powerful enough batteries are attracted to magnets even if the flashlight is not

I lost a 1/4" square drive spinner for a couple years. Finally somebody was using my skid loader and backed it into a door latch bar on a big steel roll-off dumpster. Miraculously only the radiator guard and mount were bent in the mishap; the radiator was unharmed. In the process of removing and straightening those parts I found that long-lost spinner lying in the bottom of the fan shroud!
Maybe build a miniature version of an animal control pole with a piece of small-gauge wire (electric fence wire, rebar tie wire, picture hanger wire) and a section of tubing. Hold that so the loop is ahead of the flashlight, then use a stick to nudge the light along until the loop is around the light, then push the tube and pull the wire to tighten the loop and grip the light.

Can't see the object and it is 1-1/2in dia.
Tried to find a claw but none that big.
The 3M has merit........stay tuned.
(keep 'em coming)

lump of silly putty or poster tack on a stick. OR a shop vac. Maybe convince someone with a 3-5 year old kid to let you barrow them for their tiny hands, it worked in the early industrial revolution.

Got it.
Dremeled a 1/2in sq hole in the bus side of the shroud at the bottom, bent some heavy wire into a saddle shape [ )____ ] stuck the upper end (curvy part) in under the flashlight and slowly pushed it up 'til I could grab the non lighted end and out she came!
Don't know if my description will make sense but it worked with minimal destruction, Patched the hole with some aluminum sealing tape to keep the fan suction intact and we're good.

Too much work. I would have borrowed a money if you don't have your own.
