How much fuel drains during filter change

Greetings!

1998 TC2000FE 71 passenger 5.9L Cummins.

I just replaced my front fuel filter (smaller one just ahead of the injection pump)
Bled the injectors, and all is well.

I am working on the rear filter now (larger one with the water separator attached to the frame rail. I started to drain the filter for replacement, and already have 2gal. of diesel that have drained out, with no sign of it stopping!
I grabbed a few hose pliers, and clamped off both inlet and outlet lines, but she's still flowing strong! How much fuel will drain out when removing this filter? Worried I am siphoning out the tank!

Thanks in advance!

JEFF

Well, I ended up getting about 3gal. including the filter capacity.

The bus was parked on a bit of an incline (2% or so) with the filter downhill of the tank. I ended up accessing the top of the tank from the inside of the bus, and clamping the supply hose off with some hose clamp locking pliers. Not sure if this did the trick, or I was just being impatient. Judging by the volume of fuel, it was the clamp that worked.

Let me know what your experience was when you did/do yours.

Now on to greasing all the zirks I can find.

It will definitely siphon out the tank. I usually don't use the drain to drain the filter, just spin the old one off, swap the clear bowl, and spin the new one on. Doing it that way won't siphon hardly any, mainly just the lines emptying. The drain is mainly for water and won't flow enough to break the siphon effect that you'll create.
