It happens fairly frequently. Wait till you're tired and put your transmission in park and shut it off after a long day.

What bothers me is when people find the connection lost on the top hatch because of the interlock system. To me that means someone broke in through the top hatch. You can't reconnect the hatch properly, to deactivate the interlock, from the roof.

Not too many buses have "park". Just N and a parking brake.

That's the point. Most of us are so used to putting automatics in park. It can happen when you're tired.

Well, apparently I did just that this past winter. I have no idea how it got put into reverse like that because I wouldn't shut it down while in gear. It took me three days of stress to figure out something that simple. I could have bumped the shift up while I was cleaning the window or something, but it sure threw me a curve for a while. I hate electrical.

I told my wife it was probably something simple that I was overlooking. Of course she immediately went to the worse case scenario I.e. The bus was a lemon and we screwed.

You should have seen the smile on her face when it started!

Yeah i did that one one night on a road trip.. put it in 'Park'.(Reverse).. was midway bertween ohio and florida.. went out to start and Nada.. I just happen to look down at the shifter and see it in 'R'.. otherwise i was ready to go at it with a meter.. lol

Now that you have learned about it you can use it as a theft deterrent. Yes people will even steal old school buses.

The push-button shifter for an MD3060 defaults back to neutral anytime the key is turned off and then back on.

For those of us that have the stone age buses (mechanical) that would be a good theft deterant. A mechanical fuel shut off would confuse most people.

I know there other threads about the legend of the cummins 5.9.i just had to throw in my two cents and just say that the 5.9 is one of the most reliable engines I have ever seen.i have had four of them in trucks and worked on countless others.the only consistent problem that I see on the mechanical engines is addressing the killer dowel pin.no joke.i assume that the industrial 5.9's suffer the same weak point as the trucks. They have all leaked oil Round the front timing gear cover. Change the filters,keep the valves adjusted..if it runs now, it will run forever! Cover it in some biodegradable degreaser then hut it with the garden hose.
