Type D front engine

I see a lot of BB type D All American with FE 5.9l engines. Is there enough room upfront to install an 8.3?

With enough modification you can get anything to fit. But BB only produced the BBAA FE and TC2000 FE with the 5.9. Rear engine models had the 8.3 option.

Edit: I'm wrong, 8.3 was an option in the AA!

Yes, the 8.3 is about 500 pounds heavier than the 5.9, not including the size needed for a bigger block, larger accessories, etc.

Related to this...with a FE type D....what is your guess as to how much storage space is lost under the floor because of the drive shaft? Would it be safe to confine the drive shaft into a box 9literally build a box around it so that I could put other storage compartments next to it) that is 1ft by 1ft by 20 something feet? Is it possible/safe to do that? When I think that way, I realize that by having a FE engine, I gain storage space because the rear of the bus (that the engine used to occupy) is bigger than that 20 cubic feet that the drive shaft wastes. Too bad I couldn't just connect an electric motor to the rear end and connect a genset head to the engine up front....optimal space!

I've seen enough FE 8.3's to say that you're incorrect, sir or mam.
I found this in 30 secs on google.

I stand corrected on that. I thought I had read that the both the TC and AA were all 5.9 in FE but it seems it was only the TC. Thank you sir or ma'am!

So there you go, OP.

Thanks! If I hold my coffee cup up to my ear, I can almost hear the sound of the jacuzzi jets splashing the water around in the back of my skoolie

I was watching the early 90's 8.3 until they finally decided to disclose the broken transmission. It was only after a few questions, so that tells you what kind of sellers they are.

No doubt!

IMHO: That should have been disclosed in the description.

Another one of those sold for $6650 and has "the transmission is slipping".

I would definitely avoid this seller. They don't disclose issues in the description.

I've been on the receiving end of that!

Wow, that is shady. I hope whoever bought that realized what they were bidding on. Be a pretty big shock paying that much and finding out the hard way.
