Had a bit of oily drippy stuff under the bus engine. All in one spot really, kinda looked like oil. The front axle and such is a bit road grime covered.
I'd park in a paved lot (at home I park on gravel), walk away and see a few drops of "oil". Crawled under and looked around, tightened the pan bolts a bit, not loose.
No oil use after a couple thousand miles...hmmm.
A couple weeks ago installed a drain hose on the engine mounted fuel filter canister just because it didn't have one. A nice long hose that ended a few inches from the ground. Didn't drive the bus a for a while.
Took a little trip and now I have fuel dripping from the hose....
OK, the drain valve is leaking...wrong. The canister is weeping around the seal area and running down ONTO the drain hose, following the hose, looking like it's coming from the hose. Drip, drip, drip every 2-3 seconds while running.
Months ago I changed the fuel filter, used a large open end wrench of the proper size..1-1/8in.
Yesterday, went online, checked for proper torque...25 ftlb is the generally expressed torque, Cummins says HAND TIGHT!
The "oil' was simply fuel that had gotten all over the front underside and having solvent properties turned the undercarriage greasy grunge into liquid, oil looking stuff for sure. The amount of torque from the 18in long wrench had apparently distorted the filter housing lid/O-ring 'cause it sure doesn't leak now. BECAUSE IT'S HAND TIGHT
Lesson learned...I hope
