Win7 went End Of Life last week, it's no longer supported by MS and vendors will eventually stop supporting their software on 7 as well.

In my industry, XP is 120% dead. You can't run a browser engine less than 4 years old, which means you're not running a lot of newer apps (for example, vuejs 2 which is what I use). The death of WinXP finally signaled the end of MSIE and browsers that didn't understand remotely recent SSL.
You can still build apps for it if you use outdated compilers, but you're not going to find many people doing that. if your computer is so outdated you can't run a newer version of Windows, you would do well to move to a lightweight LInux distro like xubuntu.

I have to say, I want to find the morons responsible for product development at Microsoft and beat them silly. Every update seems to slow my new machine down. And I am fed up with updates every 5 days to 3 weeks. Get it right the first time, you idiots...
Personally, I think XP has been deliberately sabotaged by Microsoft's own people to force everyone to upgrade to the POS Win10.

I picked up my new toy years ago. I was heavily involved in the I.T world in the 2000's. I use to rake in the money in the XP days. I had access to Windows 8 Milestone 1. After watching that evolve and come to market. I jumped ship and went over to linux for a little while and then to MAC. I moved a lot of clients over to Mac only one has gone back to winDoze. My new toy a nice little Mac mini.

Had the apples and the aopen clones but you can't beat the price on this. The motherboard only has an atom cpu but the case, hard drive, memory and power supply are all new in box and worth quite a bit more than $88. I posted the link if anybody was interested.

now that ive gotten into it i run 10 on all my windows machines now.. I actually like it and after getting rid of background services it works well and is pretty fast.
I still like Linux the best for my background operations..

Too bad we are not in Florida right now. I have a few monitors in storage! We may be taking another trip in July ... so keep us posted on the monitor search, Charlie.

You have to be price wary with the thrift stores. I have seen many selling used gear at close to new prices ... and they put a sticker on the case that is next to impossible to remove.
