He he, I made it home , the last 200 miles were slightly nerve wrecking. Again a second hesitation and service engine light soon on.
Then about 20 miles from home on I99 around Altoona I faint smell of diesel came in the cabin. Optimist as me , haha, ....probably the truck in front of me...but the better part of me new that i had a fuel leak somewhere. The engine valley is wet so fuel pump? It has 150000 miles, so very well possible. It was night and I knew i could not fix it on the road, I checked my fire extinguisher and had some extra water ready in case things would get out of hand.
Either way, came home safe . Left a puddle of diesel on the street where I had to backup to get in the parking spot. Cleaned the puddle , opened the hood to let the heat out and also took the doghouse of.

See if it starts tomorrow and see if the diesel is coming from the weep hole , lines , filter or something more complicated.

Elfie fuel leak

Well I tore the Elfie apart.
The leak comes from the fuel pressure spike reduces that is mounted on the y piece that directs the fuel to each cylinder bank.
The problem is how to get to it in an easy way

In the mean time some fuel receipts with the slightly larger tires

Today had the heavenly taste of working on Van based engines.
This did not start to bad.
The 7.3 powerstroke fuel pump damper was leaking.
Location is a bi.ch.

Yes right there under the turbo, i was able to get an open wrench in there and loosen it up but could not get it out.
So tore some more off.

On my other van i had done similar jobs and it was not to bad until I decided to take a shortcut and the top bolt of the exhaust pipe to the turbo Y broke off.
It was loose and came out nice but the last 5/16" broke of . In my othet Van i had drilled a pilot hole into the turbo Y and put WD40 in it. Did that now also but after it broke off. Anyhow my shortcut took me 4 hours to drill and re-tap the hole.

I had a used spare damper and was able to screw that on.
Tomorrow I will install the exhaust again and see how it runs.

The fuel damper had a crack in it.

here a photo how I drilled out the broken of piece and how to prevent these things from happening on these powerstrokes.
I hope visible in the picture are the two small holes that end up in the blind holes of the turbo Y. Now you can fill that up with your favorite penetrating oil.

The tool is a HB freight buy. It did the job, $5 very well spent.

Going to install EGT probes while i am at it, but that is more in the build thread.
