They're cool, I just think they're over priced by a LOT and way over-rated. Based on really old technology. They do look FUN.
Stuff like the Grom and Ruckus are cool, just not for what they sell for. They're the "trendy" end of the scooter world.
In five or ten years CL will be full of them. I'll get some garage queens with years old gas and gummed up carbs for a couple hundred bucks when those days come.

you are already starting to see them pop up for 1/2 of retail now.. which is still high.. since they are a 3k bike.. (I can buy a chinese 49cc step through scooter brand new for sub 600 here in st pete on sale.)
but seems the trend is people are starting to flip them over already.. which means as you say in a few years they might be dirt cheap.. once the Fad wears off...
just like all the skoolies we will find when the tiny-house fad wears off.. (and it will)..

Dang. Was out on a nice moped cruise yesterday. Let a good friend of mine ride my RAAAAD green Targa. Was having a blast, all was going really well. IDK how but he dropped it on the last corner turning back into my neighborhood.
Bummer.
about $100 in damage.

Scooter Rule #1:

He's working part of it off helping me paint my bus. And I've more or less got everything to fix the moped already in my garage. I'm like a Tomos dealer.
I'll be getting some custom airbrush work!!!!!!!! and he's GOOOOD!
One of my favorites was this frog on a helmet-

I haven't been on here in a long time. I got a ...job. I can't believe I just said that. Anywho, I found a 2006 Honda Elite with 3000 miles. What is a fair price for this thing? The owner is an old man. I don't think he beats on it. I want to see if I can pick it up tomorrow maybe. He is asking $1000. That seems high but if he the records, it might be worth it???

Is it an Elite 80? I wouldn't pay a grand for one but they're pretty decent.

Check with your local laws too. In many states anything over 50cc requires a Motorcycle endorsement.
I would not pay $1000 for a 2003 scooter, unless it was in like new condition with great records or is a large 250cc or better.
Never pay more than $500 for a Chinese scooter, even if it look like new.

Never pay anything for a chinese scooter. Been there, done that, made some scrappers day a thousand miles later.
If its an 80cc Elite, I wouldn't pay more than $600 or so. If its a 150, I'd jump on that if its in nice condition.
I think Cal has his MC endorsement, though. He was looking at dual sports last i heard.

The Chinese ones are that bad? I was thinking of one as a runabout .. seems mopeds are becoming more hipster like up here in Ohio and as such prices are going up too..
I could probably lift a moped into my bus but not a scooter though.

Mopeds are infinitely cooler, and you can actually find parts and work on them yourself. I could find you a decent running moped for $500 or less. Hell we could build you one to spec from one of the MANY carcasses I have in my garage. I think I own 6 mopeds, 5 of which are my beloved Tomos.
Chinese scooters are the worst form of motorized "transport" ever devised. They're HORRIBLE. The fasteners and plastics are SO CHEAP, the things just aren't even worth a penny to me. I flat out refuse to work on em, even for money. Everything you touch on em breaks, strips, etc.
Go Japanese or Euro.

I think it is an 80. I just looked up blue book value. It said 705 trade in and 1140 retail. I can't believe it's that high. It doesn't take miles into consideration.
I know I will need a motorcycle license for it. I've had one before. I'm renewing my license this year. I will add a Class B with passenger and motorcycle endorsement.

I second the "don't buy Chinese", they are worth NOTHING - as nobody will work on them, even if you could find the parts, you will find out why nobody wants to touch them doing the work yourself.
However do NOT rule out Korean brands such as Kymco, as they are the equivalent of Euro scoots, but much cheaper. Got a buddy that puts thousands of miles on his (I think he has three)
