When I used to be a bicycle mechanic I started to get real good at lacing and truing wheels . I found that new rims were always easier for me to get true than older rims that had been stressed,in different ways . but this was all on a pedal bike so it was probably a tbousand times Easier

I spent 6 weeks on truing at MMI Orlando. Most of us just couldn't master it.

It's not a scooter but....

...IT HAS TWO WHEELS.

Hey Charlie, brother and I built this for a friend this past winter. He's going to use it for his display at bike and car shows to attract people to his booth.

Still haven't started it, so we don't know what the pipe sounds like. Waiting for a decent day to take it for a spin. Need to take a video of it before we drop it off to him....he painted it and hasn't seen it completed.

Seriously! I really wish I had the fabricating skills some of these guys have! The other day I was perusing through Harbor Freight's cheap gas motors imagining all the fun crap I could build. I really hope I have kids who want to build a go-kart together, one day!

I'd like to put a 2 stroke MX bike engine on a moped. Something like an 80's KX80 on a Tomos.
Some day, no matter what it takes, I'll have an 80 mph moped lol. Sure, I'll need hydraulic forks and a disc, but it's just something I'm chasing for the hell of it.
52mph on gps is as fast as I've gotten my modded Tomos, but that's with an essentially stock carb. I've got a Dellorto PHBG and four petal reed/intake still to put on it and I'm expecting 55mph+ after that!

If we are getting crazy, while you are out there I'd like one powered by an old school hit and miss engine

PS a dude in CA has a.... Idk scooter bike thing powered by steam. Pretty awesome, plus he has a steam train style whistle on it

We packed up the family & cruised SE Asia a few winters back. It opened my eyes to the world of scooters. It's baddass. My sons and I rented them a few times. I took lots of scooter pics, it was fascinating to watch millions of people zipping around like they do. Sometimes you see families of 4 on the dang things.

Ever since I was a junior mint I had wanted a motorcycle, but I never pulled the trigger due to lifestyle or financial reasons.

The two wheel bug bit me again hard when I was putting around Cambodia on an ebike.

I then bopped over to Thailand where I rented a gas scooter.

It was cool, however it was a bit unnerving as well. Asian traffic has to be experienced to be believed!

When I got back to Kauai I decided to finally buy a two wheeler of some sort.

I looked at Rucks and Metropolitans before deciding that what I really wanted was a proper motorcycle.

That is when I bought “Whiskers” my 2015 Yamaha SR400.

I love that little Yamahopper and now also own a 2002 Harley Super GlideClick image for larger version

My "scooter" history (as best I can recall):

1957 Triumph Thunderbird
1953 Triumph TR5 Trophy
1969 Yamaha 125 MX
1969 Penton "Iron Tank" MX
1971 Husqvarna 400 MX
1973 Husqvarna 400 MX
1974 Husqvarna 400 MX
1975 R75 BMW
1971 Honda 350 SL
1972 Yamaha RD 350 (Highly Modified air cooled engine for Cafe Racing)

The same bike was then converted to water cooling using half a 1976 TZ750 top end, TZ 350 crank and reed valves from a 500cc Yamaha. It ran very successfully in the 400 Cafe class, 750 Cafe class, Formulae 2 and Formulae 1 for about 5 years.

Only current bike is a 2002 Yamaha TTR 225 which I would like to sell/and or swap for an older 2-stroke enduro bike. Would love to find something like a 73-75 DT 250 to hang off the back of my bus.

My stepdad raced semi-professionally in the 70's on 125 yamaha's.
A HORRIBLE crash at a Tampa race and he's now got a man-made femur and only rides his XT250 occasionally. His brother still rides a CR500 to this day lol.

I'm done with full size bikes until I can find an RZ350.

My uncle used to race 175cc Husqys in the '70s.......I got to play with a couple of them. Damn good bikes.

I too will be carting around a 250 dual sport when I hit the road....planning on a 18-20" wide rear bumper and a 2500 lb ATV winch mounted on the roof deck to load and unload.

Visited my sis and B-I-L in Taipei in '86......saw families of 4 or 5 on scooters lots of times. Totally amazing seeing how people of other cultures live their lives. We borrowed some 175s from some out-of-town ex-pats and rode through the pineapple fields in the mountains outside Kaohsiung for 2 days. The mountain roads were all paved, about 8 feet wide, and almost as twisty as the Tail of the Dragon.....and no helmet laws. Best vacation ever.

Reminds me of the family bicycles in Holland.
