Rokon bike?
A search for Rokon turns up nothing here on skoolie.net.
Anyone have experience with those?

Hey Simon
Congrats on getting the bike licence.
I got tired of Grom shopping then saw your post.
I hadn't considered the Duke until I saw your purchase in Feb and thought that would look great as a dual purpose.
If you plan on any backroad/dirt road riding I think you'll be happy with the dirt tires. I might go a little less aggressive on the next set. Other than the lumpy massage they provide on the highway I am very happy with the street performance, they are soft enough to provide good stick on the pavement and are wearing reasonably well. What's your plan for carrying the bike on the bus?
Cheers

I found a motorcycle hitch rack with ramp on Amazon with very good reviews. It is $299. I didn’t order it yet but saved it for future review. I want to put a hitch on the front of the bus for the bike to free up the rear section for either a car or just to keep it clear for engine servicing.

Rokon's are awesome off roaders, being 2 wheel drive. They have great pulling power, and can blaze a trail through thick woodlands where a regular dirt bike would not be able to go.
The manufacturing/assembly factory is in Rochester, NH, about 20 minutes from me.
Unfortunately they are not street legal and top speeds are low.

You're welcome.
With the right amount of $$ and work, one might be able to make one quasi- street legal, but certainly couldn't venture onto any highway due to the low speed gearing.
They would be great for any off road adventuring one might have...

My thoughts are of using it as a go-fer vehicle when in the next 5 to 7 years my bus is a full time live aboard. To/from local stores & around the homestead, not interstate travel. Thanks again.

I had to look it up. Nice bike. Pricey for what it is and it’s relatively limited use. Would make a great survivalist backup plan in a bunker!

"...and it’s relatively limited use"
Yep, the fact it's not street legal as is at that price is a problem.

I almost bought a Yamaha TW200. Love the look and utilitarian ability but for two up in an emergency with a top speed of maybe 55 (65 with one person) I thought it might be limited in my use. The Suzuki VanVan was next on my list as it was a little more towards the streetability rather than dirt centric. That bike however had less aftermarket parts than the TW. In the end, after much research the lightweight Duke 200 became the one for both price and capability. It tops out at 87 and can get there rather quick. Liquid cooled, oil cooler and dual abs for 5k out the door was a no brainer. With my wife on the back I didn't push it past 75, but it still fits the bill. I love off-road bikes, but I am inseam physically challenged at 29/30 so most if not all off road bikes are too tall for my comfort levels.

A Rokon in urban settings would be disastrous for the rider, as law enforcement could run faster than the bike could go...

Not Philly police - they're a bit on the plump side.

I think a scooter will make the perfect alternative to a toad.
Here are my two Honda CH80's.
100+ mpg cruising!

Before the thieves got us we had a nice Chineese 80cc scooter that fit through the door of our Dutchstar. It was light enough that I could pick it up without help. It got more than 100 miles on its 3/4 gal tank. It would propel me up to 58mph. I weighed on at 245lbs at the time. I had a milk crate I could strap on the seat for groceries. The wheels were probably 21" for great stability. I loved it. The wife wouldn't ride it by herself and it would have been too much to ask it to carry both of us. So, we had a Volvo 740 wagon as a toad and I would lay the scooter in the back of the volvo.
We've got a jeep liberty toad now but we keep looking for another of those super little scooters.

Scooter vs TOW
I’m considering a Vespa 150cc as an option. Not really for back roads but primarily to get places that either don’t allow buses or to run for supplies? I can’t come up with a reason against (other than maybe a little pricey)…
Just not seeing lots of chatter for or against??
