I like the dog!

Picked up a 50cc 2 stroke today for CHEAP. 2000 Derbi Atlantis. With extra parts bike.
Not too common around these parts at all. Pics to come when there's light.

Finally got the clutch and gears all back together on Ole Yeller. Then twisted off an exhaust stud...
Is this scooter cursed? I'll be putting Charlie Brown stripes on it using some black vinyl.

Hey sorry to hear about the exhaust stud on the honda. Those are a bear when they snap off.
Thoughts on your clutch, I've had lots of issues over the years with old honda scooter transmissions and keep in mind the scoring on the clutch shoes is no big deal. Infact it's often the polishing of the shoes that makes the trans slip, studder, make weird noises.

Take yourself a good hind file and score them up nicely with crosshatches like you are prepping a bicycle tube to be patched. Slap that cover back on, and assuming you have the correct drive belt, I bet that transmission is way more quiet

I'm on my third clutch set and second final drive set with gears and bearings replaced.

Got the stud out by making a slot in it with a dremel and carefully and forcefully backed it out with a screwdriver. I let some PB Blaster soak on it for a couple hours before attempting that.

I scuffed the shoes and bell pretty well the last repair attempt. I'm considering trying a couple mods of my own. Maybe cut some slots in the shoes and/or drill some holes in the bell. Aftermarket stuff is available for about every other scooter. Just not these 80's honda designs.

3rd Clutch?
replaced gears and bearing?

you should get 14k to 20k miles on the Honda clutch
6k miles on the drive belt Minimum.

are you talking about having replaced the final drive gears? as in, on the other side of the engine that your rear tire is mounted to!? Those never get replaced. the transmission is designed so that the clutch side with belt and variaritor takes most of the beating, and hense the belt and rollers change every 6k miles or more

How many miles are on this scooter and what exactly is is doing that won't go away. This

It functions and rides great, but the clutch lets out a shriek every time it engages.
I have three CH80's and started swapping out parts and trying different "fixes". I only did the final drive as I was bored and desperate.
The guys on the scooter forums aren't very helpful and if it isn't solved with new rollers and a belt they have no clue.
A couple of them have tried to help. I've went through the service manual with a fine tooth comb and have rebuilt everything under the side cover. New rear wheel bearing and seal, new gears and bearings, two variators, two sets of rollers, three clutch "packs" aka the driven face assembly.
Tried scuffing the clutches and bell, the bell is a brand new oem honda part, too.
The belt and everything else is more or less new. Its been gone through extensively and exhaustively.
I'm no slouch when it comes to fixing two wheelers. I did 18 months of the MMI Harley program in Orlando and was in the top of the class for sure.
NOTHING mechanical has ever given me such a fight as fixing this damned clutch.

I can tell you do know scoots, though. Any ideas from here?

oh and it is a really clean low mile 2001. Had 4400 when I got it. 4650 or so now.

Scootie, looks like your last post was cut short, and you haven't been back.
That's sure a bummer. Was hoping to continue this discussion!

my helix lets out squeaks as it takes off, I just ignore it since I had new clutch shoes put in at about 2000 miles ago and the belt was also new, I will worry when it graduates to a grinding noise or it quits moving

YEah my scooter functions just fine, but when I was replacing the belt and rollers I noticed the uneven clutch shoe wear.
I WANT A HELIX!!!

When Roxy and I ride the ch80 two up, we are seeing 45++ mph on flat ground. Together we weigh over 300 lbs. Pretty darn quick for a 4 stroke 80
Happy about that, at least. With just me on it it cruises at 48-50.
Been loving the economy. I put a dollar or two in it a week. I've even been splurging on the ethanol-free rec 90 stuff.

I put together a running bike out of the black 99 parts bike. Its now running AWESOMELY. Spent a day or two tuning it and having some fun with it and sold it for a tidy profit.
Still doing R&D to come up with a bulletproof clutch solution for these ch80's.
I'm going to try some Malossi and NCY stuff.
And I'm going to try 8.5 gram rollers and another brand of kevlar belt.

Snow on the ground here, scooter season is over for me.

East coast. Now take that money and get something done on your bus.

I'll be getting back to bus work soon enough.
Enjoying the 80* weather and low gas prices though. Winter here is where its at for working on buses.
I've not had the kind of access to my bus I'd like in the last couple months.
Typical bus storage drama...

Scooters have been keeping me busy and I've been having a blast.
I've got four ch80's and two Derbi's in the garage and carport at the moment.

I just moved my bus again due to no access to work on it for the last year. Now the season is over. Time for me to tarp it over again.

The Aero 125 is a rare one. The last of its kind really.
There's an Aero 80 for sale locally but from all I've heard they weren't the best scooters.

I'm thinking I'd like to stick one of my ch80 engines onto the back of an Express or something, just for fun.

You could always shoe horn a V8 on it.
