Yes, they're fairly rare. That's a decent price. Fun lil scooters.
I want one!

Strange bike, that Gyro. I needed more details about it so I brought up the Wikipedia article for it. My favourite line from the article: "Honda's early marketing contains the Engrish acronym Great Your Recreation Original."
Haha..
And here's more Engrish for anyone interested: Engrish.com

Just bought one of these. 2004 Aprilia Atlantic 200. Mine needs a seat cover and a little TLC, not much.
Pick up soon.

You and Mary will enjoy that!
IMO Aprilia are top shelf scoots, man. I want an RS50.
That 200 will be great for 2-up rides.
Gonna use it instead of a toad?

It's rad seeing everyone's bikes!
This is my 78 small frame vespa. Has a 150cc kit polini pipe, reeds, carb kit etc.....it's pretty damn fast for a vespa.
This pic has my 09 stella on the left. It's bone stock and thankfully was made just before the switch to 4 stroke. It's been very reliable and I've gone on a few really long trips......syracuse ny to Boston to Cape cod to providence ri. and back etc.
Love both of them but definitely am considering getting a larger dual sport or a ural with a sidecar. Somewhere for my fiancé and dog to sit. Regardless I'm strapping something to the back of my bus.

Like this?
I bought this 2 years ago. This pic is off the dealer's website before the sale, but it's the same bike. A guy bought it, and brought it back 6 weeks later scared stiff of it. I got a "used" bike w/ less than 1200 km on it for 3 grand off. Lovin' it!

That small frame (and nice list of tasteful mods) is my "dream" scoot!
Urals are cool, at least they WERE. Now they're going for more than nice bikes.

Thanks cb. It's a blast to ride and super reliable after the cylinder kit. The rings were fried on the original piston so it hated to start when it was warm. And as far as the ural they are really pricey especially since they just got fuel injection and steering dampers. I still want one or would gladly ride a honda cb or similar bike as long as it has a side car.

To Eastcoast and any other scooter owners out there. We are looking for a scooter that we can put behind the bus that will carry two people and will be used to get to the next trailhead or maybe into the next town for a few supplies. We have looked on Craigslist in our part of the world and the scooters we have seen are either very expensive or junky Chinese scooters that have a bad reputation. Can anyone give is us some brand names to look for? Or can you give us some ideas about specific models of any brand to look for that would be decent scooters to look out for? Thanks in advance

Yamaha Zuma's are nice. I like the older two stroke Zuma's, not so much the newer 4 stroke stuff. They're capable of hauling two, get great mileage and are rugged. A nice used one can be had for $500-$1000. 49cc scoots like the Zuma are gonna be capable of 35-45 depending. But scooters aren't about going fast- they're about celebrating simplicity and frugality and enjoying the ride!
Vespas are sweet, but really pricey.
Some great deals can be had on some Derbi scooters as folks don't know what they are and they were TOP OF THE LINE. Harder to find, but I've seen clean nice Derbi Atlantis scoots for $500 or less.
If you want something larger like a maxi-scoot then I'd have to say its really hard to beat a Honda Helix 250. THey're the lazy-boy recliners of the scooter world. Smooth, reliable, simple, and powerful. Folks fut big miles on these as they're so comfy. A little long and heavy though. Not quite my taste although I'd love one just for taking Roxy to the beach.
If you have the money there are lots of fancy big scooters out there. The Suzuki Bergman and Yamaha Majesty come to mind.
Something in between a big scooter and a little one would be a Honda SH125 or SH150. Really sweet modern scooters that can carry two, get great mileage, and can cruise at 65+. IF you really want a good all arounder and have a couple grand to spend this is one I'd really look hard at. It is modern, four stroke and fuel injected.
If you have any more questions or need any help just holler. I LOVE scooters and ESPECIALLY love mopeds!
Just got a sweet new pipe for my Tomos daily rider. And slapped a new sidestand on to eliminate the bent center stand that's been killing my fun when trying to corner hard to the right!

Thanks Eastcoast that is exactly what I was looking for! Now I have some scooters and some different sizes to start my search with. I am not in any hurry to buy one but it gets discouraging looking at adds for Italian sounding names that turn out to be Chinese made scooters that don't run or need a little work only to find out that these brands have a reputation for not running and always needing a little work.
