The Photography Thread (photo-heavy content!)
I looked around and couldn't find a thread devoted to photography, so I decided to start one.
This thread is for photography of all kinds, but I would say it would probably be best for travel photos of places you've been and things you've seen. DO NOT post photos you found on the internet—photos should be taken by you or someone you know and you should have the legal right to share them in this forum. I would also request that you keep the pictures family-safe and work-safe. Also, try to keep the file sizes small enough to lessen the strain on fellow members with slow connection speeds.
I'm a semi-professional photographer and a bit of a show-off, but I don't want that to keep anyone from sharing their own photos. This is open to any member of this site, so let's start sharing those photos!
------------
I'll start off with some older stuff....

Mangrove tree, Crandon Park Beach, Key Biscayne, January 2005
South Beach, March 2005

Re: The Photography Thread (photo-heavy content!)
Good thread idea. I had a quick peek at your gallery, and my first thought was "Very nice photos", my second thought was "Thank you for not going bananas with HDR effects!"
What's your weapon of choice?

Where was the rodeo photo taken?
I agree with you on HDR. While I've seen some very nice renditions using the technique, the vast majority are way overdone. I have never even tried to create a HDR photo because I detest the typical look of the images.
I currently use a Sony Alpha a900 DSLR. I started as a teen with a Minolta Maxxum 9000 and a single lens. The collection grew to a few lenses and when I switched to digital it seemed a good idea to retain the lens selection I had and so I went with a Konica Minolta 7D. After Sony took over KM's camera division (in 2009, I think) I bought the a900. The ergonomics of the Minolta/KM/Sony lineup have always felt better in my hands than any Canon or Nikon product, so it felt natural for me to stick with this system.

Re: The Photography Thread (photo-heavy content!)
The rodeo shot was taken at Sonoita, Arizona. At the time, photography was a hobby and I was trying different shooting styles...action, "art", landscapes (rural, urban, and otherwise), etc.
Agree re: HDR -- it is really easy to abuse it, just like old school dodge & burn techniques.

Re: The Photography Thread (photo-heavy content!)
This is a photo of my 'Bago on the way home from Skunk Fest 2011. I wish I had had the money and the balls to have that spare tire cover made for real, so I had to "Photoshop" it. (There are no other alterations in the picture.) That boss was a mean one with lots of double standards, especially regarding her teacher's-pet secretary.
Cat (with a grumble): "All right, you can go ahead, if you insist."
Skunk: "Thanks, don't mind if I do."
