At the moment I'm working as a small engine mechanic but I'm going to change my job in 6 months. I want to buy a hotel overseas and run my own business. Right now I'm looking for a hotel for sale in Tenerife and as soon as I find it I will quit my job.

Hi guys,

I see a lot of people are wondering how to make an income on the road. We are starting a service to encourage nomad bus living by connecting Skoolie owners with outdoorsy travelers looking for unique accommodation experiences. Our goal is to help Skoolie owners on the road support themselves with a side income by hosting people overnight on their available bunks/couches, introducing travelers to tiny home living while offering affordable accommodation around the great outdoors, where it’s hardest to come by.

Depending on how much bed/couch space you have, we can help you make between $50 and $100 a night by connecting you with local travelers.

We are in our beta testing phase right now, so we basically are just looking for people to try it out a couple of times, give us feedback, and make money out of it!

If you're interested on getting a good source of income on the road and you enjoy meeting people from all over the world, please private message me!

PS: The service is only available in North America as of now, but if you're from overseas we'd still love to hear from you
This sounds like an interesting concept. I would try it if I liked people.

My thought is to sometimes rent out my skoolie but drive it to wherever they need to stay in it (RV park, family's house etc.) and drop it off, then pick it up when they're done. I for sure would have tried something like this out already if it were available, to get a sense of what life on a skoolie would be like. I stayed one night in a tiny house instead, which was a thoroughly awful experience (but somehow I went ahead with the skoolie).

You'd have to have either:
Deep Pockets or Great Insurance, for the times when partiers trash your abode.
There's no way to screen everyone 100% of the time, unfortunately.
Definitely not worth it IMO...

Yeah, I dunno. I would have assumed that would be a huge problem with airbnb also, but that seems to work out pretty well for people. FWIW I was also going to see about doing this through airbnb, essentially.

The idea of renting out to total strangers out on the road ??? I dunno. The reason I’m wanting to get out on the road is for my experience, not to make any kind of income.

Sharing a small space with strangers is probably a lot cooler than it sounds. Till it isn't.

People coming from the tinyhouse community are probably into this idea. I know a lot of them buy or lease tinyhouses expressly to rent them out as airbnb units. Tiny house manufacturers often use that as a primary selling point. And I've seen a number of buses built in similar ways, buses that would be useless on the road but have all the comforts of home as long as you stay parked, hooked up to power, water, sewer, and gas.

And on a related note, don't forget about this thief: http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f14/ne...obo-21332.html

Mike from NavigationNowhere has picked up riders from all over the country to share costs and get to know people. He’s met some pretty awesome folks. I think he met many from Craigslist.
I personally feel this is a great idea.

I’ve always been accused of never meeting a stranger, but I’m not willing to abuse the privilege. I know, I know, most people can be trusted. But it only takes one to screw up your day. Maybe a good idea for some, just not for me.

Hitchhikers and homeless folks will sooner or later bring trouble. Ask me how I know. My deadhead-ness has bit me hard before.

I saw an article a while back. The details are fuzzy but if I remember right it was a dude who lived in his van that would let couples rent it out for weekends and tuff.. The catch was, he was part of the rental, so they all shared the space. If the article was to be believed it often turned into a small sex party. In my mind I imagined it probably smelled like a bunch of wet dog blankets in an outdoor men's restroom 24/7. I don't think it was MIke from Navigation Nowhere but Sandi's story reminded me of it.
