350/700 watt inverter short term refrigerator use.

I've got a small 350watt/700peak watt inverter, I don't remember the name.

Soon, I'll be needing to move my bus less than an hour away...
I'm figuring I'll hook my inverter up to the battery and plug my fridge in to keep cool & frozen.

I checked the wattage of the side by side fridge at wattdoesituse.com and it said 76.32 watts. Samsung rs253

So I'm figgerin' I'm gonna be in good shape, until I get to site and plug into shore electric?!?!

Am I right or are my eyes brown? I sure figured a big side by side fridge would use more watts than that!

Only an hour away, I wouldn't do anything. Don't open the doors. Electricity goes off at the house much longer than that with no ill effects.

I agree with somewhere. No need to power it, just dont open the doors. Though the wattage does sound a little low, I put a kill a watt meter on my energy star rated and only pulled 101 watts at start up. So.........

You can try if it works. The starting current of a fridge compressor is pretty high. Once it is running you are probably OK. Before you try unplug the fridge for 5 minutes to be sure that the compressor does not have to start against remaining freon pressure from the last pumping cycle. The fridge is protected against over current from a stalled motor but your inverter might not like it.

I agree with the other folks. Just turn the fridge on high 5 hours before and put a couple of ice packs in the freezer compartment. It will keep you cold for 5 hours or more.

Later J

I have forgotten to switch my fridge to propane after being plugged in, and have driven for hours with out any problems, don't worry you will be fine.

Got it!
I was using the 'over-thinking' part of my brain

I'm thinking of doing this with my Dometic RV fridge/freezer for boondocking. I have 315Ah of batteries, no solar and a heavy duty 750W inverter laying around doing nothing. The fridge has a 325W heater element so I figure the inverter should handle maintaining a pre-chilled fridge.

My question is will this be a significant strain on my 100A 3-stage charger/converter when I fire up my genny to recharge the batteries?
